super_etecoon said: Kn....to be honest, right now is not the time to be judging the hot topics section for interesting content. Have you been through the major sites like Kotaku, Joystiq, IGN, etc.? It was Easter weekend. Nothing happened; entire days passed with nothing being posted at these sites. And there hasn't been a sales update since Tuesday. I don't know about you, but I can't generate news/sales without the help of updates....so that's why we have all the drivel on the front page.
Now it doesn't help that the makeup of users on this site has certainly been downgraded since I and many of the original users joined this site. When I first came Kwaad was the least mature member here, but at least he knew his stuff and was supporting his rants with numbers, fictitious as they were.
These days there are a few different factions of posters (you have ruffled the feathers of one such faction in this very thread) that view VGChartz as their little playground. I guess the best we can do is just let them suck all the low brow posters into their threads to free up the interesting threads for the more educated discussion. There's a win here for everyone. |
I wish it were that nice long ago. But the boards were flush with people a lot worse than we have now. Trust me, I had to deal with a lot of them. The forum is so much more civilized, friendly and intelligent than it used to be.
As for the current state of things. Yes. It is our playground, in the sense that it's where a bunch of people meet, share, discuss and play. And that's a good thing. We don't come here to talk about game sales because we're paid analysts doing our job. We do it because it's fun for us. So once we're here and having fun, why can't we share other kinds of fun with our fellow users?
I really don't want off topic taken off the front page. I want to see what's new when I come on the site, everything that's new. And if a topic is so unseemly or immature that it detracts from the site or creates problems for users, alright. that's what we're here for.
I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.
Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.
Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!
