Maybe separate them with headings.

At the top, say Gaming Related, and have 20 hot topics, then below, put Off-topic, and have like ... 10 hot topics.

I think this would do well for the site.

I'll add my support. The off topic content on the front page really is just too much. I don't need to see some bullshit conversation about "what you need to do to get to heaven", "are you a virgin" or "how fat are you" on the front page of VG Chartz.
