Forums - Nintendo - Developer “Guarantees” that “Nintendo NX Won’t Have Third-Party Support”

Volterra_90 said:

Hey, the developer's kit situation is the same for every hardware company, so it doesn't teel us enough about the NX situation. Let's wait to jump into conclusions. The fact is that Nintendo acknowledge the mistakes they've made this gen (obviously, WiiU sales are enough to make them know about it) and they might solve the third-party support this gen. Or not. We don't really know anything yet.

Reggie promising 3rd Party Support for the Wii:

"Let me assure you that our third party partners will also meet the needs of both audiences. As you know, third party development is moving enthusiastically to the Wii because of the innovation and because of the potential return on investment. And despite what you might have heard, to date in the US third parties have sold more Wii games than Nintendo has, and this includes all the success we've had with Zelda and Wii play."

Reggie promising 3rd Party Support for the Wii U:

"From our perspective as a first party publisher, as a console manufacturer our job is to drive the install base to reach out to a broad range of different consumers and to create an environment for third party publishers to jump in and that's what we're looking to do.A number of third parties are bringing content and then they want to see us drive the install base which is what were doing with all of these great franchises we've announced."

Been there, done that.

Fool me once, shame is on you. Fool me twice, shame is on me.

It's just an indie game dev who's upset he didn't get NX devkit. Nothing to see here.

Nintendo will reach out to small Indie Devs when Nintendo NX is announced and not one minute earlier! They will NOT give any Information to small Indie Devs because they don't want to risk that Information leakes about the Nintendo NX. They will give Information about Nintendo NX at this time only to high trusted 3rd Party Developpers!!!

Wii actually had third party support, just not the same as the other consoles, because the hardware was vastly inferior. But some people just don't know about it. I have more third party games for the Wii than first party ones, not the same for WiiU, obviously, and I guess if the NX is a similar powerhouse than the PS4 and Nintendo works on talking with 3rd party publishers, we could get support. I'm optimistic, but only facts will talk, not promises or past itself.

If Nintendo gave their devkits to every single random no name nobody who made some terrible newgrounds flash game the specs would get leaked.

I'm pretty sure that EA, Ubisoft, Activision, Square Enix, Bandai Namco, Shin'en, Wayforward, Platinum Games, SEGA, etc... already have the dev kits. The fact that Nintendo is not giving it to some random indie developer with only one game on its back and zero work for Nintendo before even announcing the console itself does not worry me at all.

I'm pretty sure Moon Studios will get the dev kit at some point after E3 2016.

This!

Wait, you mean that a developer who has never made a title for a Nintendo console, who have only ever made one game (that took 5 years to make), which was made in collaboration with Microsoft, and released only on Microsoft platforms (360/XBO/PC-Win), with only one other game even having been mentioned, and having been in development for even longer, didn't get first dibs on a dev unit from Nintendo?

I'm shocked, I tell you.

I suppose Mintendo will make the dev kit avalible for all developers after the NX presentation, but I'm sure the big publishers already got them a long time ago.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I'm guessing you missed the sarcasm.
