Yeah but people arent' still buying gamecubes in japan are they? They are still buying ps2's.

right now ps3 is tracking for <4mil lifetime japan sales

so it needs a >6mil boost

the best final fantasy ever sold 3.7mil in japan
the best final fantasy on ps2 sold 2.7mil in japan (less than wii fit will sell in japan)

i don't see final fantasy 13 selling more than 1mil max ps3s, so still tracking for 5mil at that point...needs more than ff13

Barely, ps2 sales are dropping, you're saying ps2 sales are the reason for low ps3 sales but when ps2 sales drop the ps3 sales don't go up.  You're point doesn't make any sense.

ps2 sales don't hurt ps3 sales much because they target different audiences: casual/dvd vs hardcore/blu-ray

no, we realize that ps3 hadn't released those games yet

but we don't think those will be enough to get ps3 to 10mil

by the time ff13/gt5 come out, wii should have suidoken and monster hunter and fatal frame 4 and ff:cc and ff:mlak and wii music and more balance board games and also kh3 should be announced along with some other announced rpgs

wii fit is gonna surpass ps3 soon in japan and wii sports (not bundled) should outsell ps3 lifetime in japan

It only just passed 2 million consoles sold in Japan and it has been out 16 months. So by that rate with games such as MGS 4 and both Final Fantasy 13 games, expect the PS3 to reach 10 million install base by 2010.

It will. MGS 4 in stores. Resident Evil 5 and Final Fantasy series still to come. TBh, it will reach 10 million, but it won't get near PS2 sales...

ps3 is not ps2 .... look at the data, which suggests a 3mil japanese ltd sales for ps4, not 10-15mil

a) japanese aren't as into consoles as before

b) ps3 is a hardcore, not a casual, console...so their pool of potential buyers has shrunk enormously

 

u guys do realize that brand isn't everything? people do look at the actual product itself? big businesses that were on top for decades go down all the time in EVERY industry...u can't say "they were leaders last year so they will be this year" and be done with your analysis...yet time and time again the leaders of big companies make that mistake when their industry is changing and don't change with it and they lose huge market share or even have to get out of the industry altogether...sony isn't in that situation, but they also aren't gonna sell 432432423million ps3s because ps2 sold that many...just like nintendo didn't sell nearly as many n64 as snes or gc as n64...and they will sell many more wiis than any of their previous consoles

 


NJ5 & Fastrabbit09 : What you guys don't realize is that wii has releases most of their proven franchise AAA while PS3 has not ONE! Tekken, MGS, FF, GT etc (not going to include God of War cause it flopped in Japan) and not bothering with Devil May Cry as it never was a system seller for the PS2. So again once these proven franchise games releases, it will be a diffenert story, more like a BIG story! So mark my word, It WILL EASILY sell over 10 millions in Japan.

BTW : I could go into more details and point out other things, but I'm not enough to be an internet freak to type 10,000 words ;P (Not saying that you guys are, mind you)

Please read my post above to prove yourself wrong. PES, Dynasty Warriors and Minna no Golf are all better sellers than MGS on PS2.

For Wii it are mostly the new franchises like WiiSports and WiiFit that sell like crazy. 
Super Mario Galxy sold decent but not great, Brawl did very good.

There is absolutely no chance of the PS3 ever hitting 10M in Japan. It probably won't do as badly as the Gamecube, though, and I except something like 5-7M.

sure it can, as long as sony brings out a ps3 slim very soon plus drop prices too. either that or they make an effort have a very very large liblary of games for the ps3 simillar to what they did for the original playstaiton and ps2 in the very near future.
