Real question is where would we be without competition.

Remember PS3 release? Or Nintendos market politics in the late 80s/early 90s?

Competition is neccessary. That's why it's stupid to want any of the gaming companies quit the race. And probably even more stupid to want Sony and Nintendo siding. There should be at least two competitors that, ideally, are equally strong.

Totally wrong fallacy. Competition should come from software only.

I think I understand where you are coming from. You are convinced of the superiority and mass appeal of Nintendo software and believe that without Hardware differentiation Nintendo would see growth and MS and Sony (with their "non-games") would would lose ground.

I think your theory is the flawed one though. The console industry is built upon hardware. I doubt you would have this feeling if we were in the 7th gen and wii was selling by the bucket.

I Hate PLAYSTATION PLUS

The X1 would have sold more units, probably a new competitor would have entered the console market. Maybe Nvidia.

I'm saying that a single platform would still have "competition that's good for industry". Developers would have to make the best game possible, to make people buy their software instead of others, since every game would be available on that platform.

On those companies lack of understanding of the gaming industry. Thanks to them (at least partially), things that don't deserve to be considered games or should at most be considered niche gaming experiences are taking over real games. It even infected and destroyed established franchises, making them more like movies than actual games. Meanwhile, we get less and less true games from big companies and all of that drags the industry down.

Note that I'm not talking financials here, just that the real games and gamers suffer with the current state of things. As a comparison, there's a huge amount of amazing games from the 6th gen and before that I want to play or replay but only a small number of 3rd party games from this gen will be like that. Ironically, many indies capture the true feel of games better than most AAA.

Soooo what's a real game?

Seriously, I've been a gamer since before you were born and gaming is no less real now than in every generation before.

Try with someone else because I'm well aware of the truth.

I am pretty sure Sony had similar plans with DRM and always on line with PS4, but after reactions of consumers on MS plans they abandon them and they appear like savers of console market. If situations were opposite and consumers actually were delightful buy DRM and always on line, you can bet PS4 would have something similar too.

Saying that Sony makes MS to make better more attractive console to consumers, while MS make Sony to make better and more attractive console to consumers, they competing who will have better and more attractive console, that why competition is very important, and thats why I dont like when one company have huge part of market.

They abandoned those plans before E3 2013.

Yes after they saw reaction of people on X1 plans and possible PS4 plans.

Honestly, we'd have probably moved backwards to the Wii U. Xbox One wounded itself too hard to have ever been any type of success.

We would have seen console gamers move towards either Wii U or PC, with Wii U being the more popular option thanks to Mario and the like.

Essentially it would have been a PC gamer's ideal world: high end on the rig, Nintendo IP on the side.
