Competition is neccessary. That's why it's stupid to want any of the gaming companies quit the race. And probably even more stupid to want Sony and Nintendo siding. There should be at least two competitors that, ideally, are equally strong.

Totally wrong fallacy. Competition should come from software only.

I think I understand where you are coming from. You are convinced of the superiority and mass appeal of Nintendo software and believe that without Hardware differentiation Nintendo would see growth and MS and Sony (with their "non-games") would would lose ground. 

I think your theory is the flawed one though. The console industry is built upon hardware. I doubt you would have this feeling if we were in the 7th gen and wii was selling by the bucket.
