Forums - Nintendo - GoNintendo rumor on NX

Well, I trust GoNintendo, so if they said it was worth sharing, then it's probably true. Anyway, like some said, the info is pretty vague so it's hard to deny it anyway. The only potentially bad part of the rumor is that it's not easy getting a dev kit...

I hope this  time they make tons of partnerships (like Bayonetta) if they can't convince third parties to develop for their system.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Yeah this makes no sense. If they don't have dev kits yet why are they saying that they think it'll release this year? That would mean that NX would have almost no third party support at launch which would be so stupid.

You know not every developer will have a game ready at launch right?

Pretty much this, this is likely a smaller studio asking for a dev kit.

Wall Street Journal reported that third parties (probably meaning bigger studios) got kits last October.

Porting a PS4/XB1 game isn't rocket science, 8-11 months in most cases is likely enough unless NX has some super exotic architecture, which I doubt (it's going to be an AMD part).

How did you reach the conclusion that NX is getting almost no 3rd party support at launch from this rumor? In the first point of the rumor it states that key Nintendo 3rd party partners already have the dev.kits

I guess I'm inferring that if this dev has yet to receive a dev kit, it surely means that there are others that have yet to receive one as well. If NX is truly supposed to launch in ~9 months....that's not good. Nintendo will need all the support they can get at NX launch.

Yeah but Nintendo needs to ensure that they have as much as they can available at launch. They can't afford to blow it like they did with Wii U. The fact that there's even one dev that's asking for a dev kit that has yet to receive it would be a bad sign. Not sure I believe this rumor though...

There's no chance that companies expecting to release large console games for NX in 2016 are just now getting, or are still waiting to get, dev kits. 9 months wouldn't be anywhere near enough time to get everything done for a big console title, including learning the basics of how to program for it.

The very fact that it's being described as "early Dev Kit access" for those who are waiting to order a dev kit pretty much guarantees that it's a 2017 release for the console.

No one said that the dev was part of a big AAA company. It could be a smaller independant studio, in which case it makes sense that they don't have the kit yet.

I don't see how the kind of studio matters to the point I was making. This isn't about the studio, it's about Nintendo. Nintendo would be pushing to get dev kits (even if they were incomplete) into hands of developers more than a year before release. They wouldn't, nine months prior to launch, only have a "date" at which devs can start *ordering* dev kits. At least, not for a console. Maybe for a handheld.

Sure, but there are limited resources.  Not everyone can get dev kits at the same time, and they have to prioritize bigger devs.  We don't know which developer this is.  It could be a small indie dev, or the developer for Mary Kate and Ashley go to Mars or something.

Plus, one of the issues the Wii U also faced was a big drought post launch.  So, having some developers working on launch titles, and others working on titles for three months after launch wouldn't be the wost thing in the world.

As for the rumor, I don't necessarily believe it's from an inside source, but it's so vague and basic, that it's probably right either way.

Pretty general and obvious rumors if you ask me.. :/

So what if there is a dev that is yet to receive a kit,for all we know this is an indie dev so obviously wouldn't receive a dev kit as soon as Nintendo could make them,if this was about a big 3rd party like Ubisoft sure it could be bad but as off right now Nintendo can't give dev kits to anybody, since they most likely are limited.I'm sure that at the very least companies like SE,Capcom,Sega,EA,Ubisoft,Activision and  Namco(who are rumored to be working on multiple NX games) already have dev kits and if NX is launching in 9months Nintendo is going to give companies with games launching from Oct.'16-May'17 priority on getting the kits
