Forums - Gaming - Do you prefer gore/blood in your games?

Depends. A little bit, but in moderation.

I personally don't like blood/gore. I'd rather have a censored version of a game, than one that was very bloodygorey. NMH had too much blood for me when surrounded by a lot of guys, couldn't see what I was hitting. I wish I had the European/Japanese black coin clouds instead.

Depends on the game, and then yes, in moderation. I'm not a big fan of it, but sometimes it's awkward if it's not there. Like in Red Steel, there wasn't any blood at all, whether you shot or cut your enemies.. that was just weird, especially for a game called "Red" Steel.

Depends on how it's used. A game like unreal tournament, where frantically moving from target to target, if it had no gore or exploding bodies, it would almost null the sense of the perfect kill that gets accompanied by a yelling announcer screaming ULTRA KILL, GOD LIKE! etc etc... A game like Mario however >_>; Definitely not needed. If your going for a violent setting or mood, gore and blood can be infinitely useful.

same opinion here... the only time it really bothers me is if its not done correctly....... i can't really think of the game, but there was one that just didn't look right and it kind of bugged me. also, as cheebee put it, if it's totally absent when it SHOULD be there, that even bugs me more. not a game, but i bought the Ultraviolet BD online and didn't realize it was the censored version, she shoots, cuts, and totally kicks the shit out of hundreds of guys, all without a drop of blood spilled. it felt odd watching it more than anything, same goes for the games they do they same thing to.

I could care less if a game has blood in it. My wife on the other hand doesn't like bloody cuss filled games, so as a good married man I play those types of games when she's not around.

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

I don't care.

Gameplay is gameplay.

There are some game where I like blood and gore, but I don't need it.

Blood and gore is fine for certain games. Remember in Goldeneye 64 when the enemies would actually get red patches all over their clothes? James Bond games don't have that (minimal) blood anymore, and I feel it takes away somthing from the series. Obviosly a game like Resident Evil should be bloody and gory, but if the blood wasn't in there, it would still be an acceptable game. One series that I always thought would benefit from blood and gore is the Metroid Prime series. It really all depends on the game.

I hate games with blood.

I don't think that focus should bbe placed on gore vs. no gore. I think that the discussion should be more about what type of games that are central in the contemporary gaming discourse.

IMO Games based on "real life" "misses" something if there's no blood in them, but that does not automatically mean that I like realistic games.

I, however want for example Resident Evil to be gory because that's part of the theme in the game.
