I don't see why it wouldn't be possible. They've fit 2 in to a game before, with newer more powerful hardware I don't see why they can't better that. Plus it gives a lot more to do in the game. Finish one league and move on to the next and the next etc

I never said it was technically impossible, just doesn't make sense Imo. Especially going by gold silver, notice by the end of the game the level your pokémon  are compare to the other gens?

Increase level cap to 200 :)

Or do it anime style and reset your Pokemon to level 1 when going to a different region

OK we'll since you leave me no choice, I had a weird yet interesting idea, at least for a new gen. Why don't we have a game where we get 2 main characters. You and your other character start out in opposite sides of the region and you switch back and fourth with their own  teams, and later become your own rival?

No 200 lv cap, just simply a huge region with endless possibilities for 2 playable characters :p

That said, he'll no to lv 200 level cap!! 100 is hard already

I don't understand, why does it have to be Red? Why can't they just call him Ash Ketchum? Seriously, is there some licensing issue here?

I have said and always will say that if they made a Pokemon game based directly on the 1st season of the anime and brought back the voices for Ash, Misty and Brock this game could single-handedly make the NX a success. A story-driven Pokémon game based on the anime and its characters may turn off some of the hardcore fans on this forum but there are tens of millions of people out there who grew up watching these characters every single day on TV and have no idea that Pokémon is still a thing. Just look at what Jigglypuff and Pikachu did for the Smash Bros franchise and multiply that by like 10x if they actually went all out and made a proper game based on the anime (probably even more because the nostalgia factor is huge and we've gone 20 years without so much as a single game dedicated to these characters).

I have never seen such a massive piece of American pop-culture be under-utilized the way that the Pokémon anime has been. Why are we getting so many re-makes of past Pokémon games in an effort to tap into the huge nostalgia factor that there is for Pokémon and yet they won't even acknowledge their biggest nostalgia factor by far which is the anime? Microsoft and Sony would be going berserk right now if they were leaving an IP that was half as powerful as the Pokémon anime untapped.

Now is the time for Nintendo to go out all on this one. The NX needs to be a success. Nintendo and Pokémon Co. should collaborate and use the Zelda U engine to make a proper anime style open-world 3D RPG on the NX and the main character shouldn't be named Red, he should be named Ash.

It still is a direct sequel, not a third installment. Games are radically different, just same region.

That said my point originally still stands, history didn't repeat itself

Are you saying Black2/White2 aren't the third and fourth Pokemon games in Gen 5 cause that's the only way you can say the trend hasn't remained the same. There's always been a follow-up to the first two games in a generation regardless of name or how many, what you're saying does not change that.

To answer basically this entire post:

Ash sucks. The Pokémon anime sucks.
Red rocks. The Pokémon games rock.

Edit: and yes, Ash and Red are two different characters. There's no licensing issue here.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

So, would you just have Nintendo and the Pokemon Co. ignore the huge cash-cow that is the anime?

You have to admit that if you polled the average North American, 10 times as many people would recognize the name Ash Ketchum as would recognize Red.

The way you're putting it it's almost like the Pokémon games aren't already a huge cash-cow what with their low budget values and ridiculous constant 15m+ sales. Instead, you're asking for a high-budget game based on an outdated anime older people don't care anymore and isn't as big with children, and has unproven selling power.

That, and well, yes I would just have Nintendo and the Pokémon Co. ignore the anime, because I don't care about how much money they're making as long as it's enough to keep giving me awesome games, for which I'm sure the main Pokémon games are already doing well enough. I'd rather have these than a crappy new game based on a crappy TV show.

Yeah, you make a good point.

First of all to answer your question no, Red and Ash can't be classified as the same character, they own different Pokémon, they have different personalities and even different appearance.

Then such a thing as a game based off the anime already happened in the original Pokémon Yellow, but, due to technical restrictions for the time, they only managed to add Pikachu following the player and a couple more details. Currently the biggest problem for Pokémon games is that their install base is constantly growing, meaning that less and less younger people are buying their games, so I don't think that a game based on an almost 20 year old anime series would solve the problem...

Red is the canon name of the gen 1 protagonist, Ash is just based on him.
