Forums - Nintendo - Sounds like Link will remain silent in Zelda Wii U

Nice. Hopefully Link never speaks on mainline Zelda games.

I'm totally fine with other characters like Zelda or Ganon speaking, but Link needs to remain silent for good. It's part of why the game is imersive in the first place; and it's also a very different and stylish way to follow the story. This way they also need to work more on his facial expressions.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

This late in the game, I can't imagine Link with a voice. Plus, the CD-i games and cartoon voices were atrocious.

I actually prefer it this way..

Pikachu having a voice is already really odd

Oh I'm not saying my experience is 100% representative.  Just that I've never seen much to go against that.  I wouldn't blow a gasket myself either way.  But I just don't see the point.  Link doesn't often have much distinct personality except for Wind Waker and Skyward Sword.  He's usually just the player's link to the world, hence the name.

Shoot, even that excellently done fan dub of Skyward Sword doesn't have Link speak until the very very end.  So yeah, Link speaking in text or voice doesn't seem to be in high demand.  Even less so then VA actually, I'd warrant.

Disclaimer:  I've not played and/or watched every Zelda so keep that in mind.

Don't worry, I'm not saying that you were, and I'm not even saying that they aren't the majority. I'm just pointing out that I wouldn't at all be suprised that the voices of a passionate few do not accurately portray the oppinions of the masses.

I've never believed that Link hasn't had a personality. He's had one in every console game. I'd agree that his most likable and most relatable encarnations were with Wind Waker and Skyward Sword, but stoisism is still a personality trait, and it's a distinct one. The only Zelda two games where Link is absolutely without any discernable personality are in Zelda 1 and 2, and call me crazy for giving those two the benefit of the doubt.

Would you guys be alright with silent protagonist, but with chat options like Skyrim or XCX?

Skyward Sword slightly went a little more in this direction. Some conversations Link was able to choose from three different responses. I would be happy for them to expand upon this idea and more it more like Skyrim or Xenoblade. Giving the players more choice in dialogue when the character is supposed to 'Link' them between the real world and the game simply makes sense.

Just speaking for myself, I'd rather the series didn't have voice acting at all, I just can't see it ever not being awkward.

being a huge nintendo fan, i obviously dont care one way or another what they do with this. if nintendo ever decides to give him a voice, im sure theyll do a great job.

good

Great

Good. First you do Pikachu but if you touch link...
