Forums - Nintendo - Can a PS2 handle all the games that are / can be developed on a Wii?

Both PS2 and Nintendo Wii have similar machine capabilities it makes sense to sell games on both of them.

*frustration* Why are you still here? Can you read? Just read the topic and try to understand what is being said. Why haven't you been banned?  We all know you love Sony but people try to have a decently intelligent debate and you come in with the "T3H $0NY RUL3Z!"  You do nothing but ruin the fun for other users, you should get your act together or just leave.

What?!! I do not think that this is even a valid question. If a game is developed specifically for the Wii then it cannot just be ported to the PS2 because there are no motion controls. This is just a pointless question.

A reasonable estimate of processing power would have the difference between the PS2 and Wii being similar in scale to the difference between the Wii and the XBox 360/PS3 ... Certainly, it has made sense to target both platforms so far, but as the PS2 fades away it will not make sense to make a Wii game that is less competitive (in comparison to games that take advantage of the Wii) in order to target a platform with small software sales.

for god's sake, Ps2 could never handle graphics like that of Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3 or SSBB... the graphics of Ps2 are even worse than Game Cube!!

Wii graphics are somewhere between Game Cube and Xbox360, definitely not like Ps2.....

Ps2 cannot handle 1st party Wii games.... :P

Sony hype never dies!!!

It's like those zombies from the RE movie, number 3? I think.

In 70 years time "I own a PS3" will probably still be talking up the PS3 and PS2.

Tease.

People like Daddo are the exact reason Nintendo is not publicly releasing the Wii tech specs. Because average Joe simply cannot understand their context and Nintendo loses sales.

That doesn't it doesn't happen. It's like the DS vs PSP. The DS is far more popular so it gets more titles. Some of these also get a port towards the PSP. But some ports are made so cheaply that's it's too obvious that the DS was the original platform. You will always feel that the DS version would be better. More accuracy and precision and such.

Same story goes for PS2 vs Wii. If it's motion control based and the PS2 port is subtracted from that, it can't be a good game. It needs him own controls, cause it has no Wii-mote.

This is a reasonable example.  Consider also that the Wii has several times the memory that the PS2 does.

I've got a PS2 and, of course, I connect it via component like I do with my Wii.  And the best PS2 games graphically don't even compare with games like Super Mario Galaxy which, incidentally, looks good for a next gen game regardless of the platform its on.

The reason the PS2 gets a lot of development as well is because it has a huge userbase.  Development for the platform is well known, the tools are there and tested.  Everyone has done it and everyone is ready to do it.

And you can add the fact that the comparisons are done with PS2 games which are well mastered and in the end of its life, and with Wii games made in its infancy. The Wii was barely 1 year old when Mario Galaxy was released.

And the PS2 is already no match.

So NO, the PS2 can't handle all the games that are/can be developed on a Wii.

Which is the answer to the thread's topic.
