The usual Nintendo fanboys are giving Biulders a one star on Amazon Japan lol. Some things never change.

Everything gets a one-star on Amazon Japan. It's Amazon Japan.

Was piracy big in Japan, or anywhere, at that time? I'll be honest, I don't know when the PSP's piracy problem started.

I think it started shortly after release but not 100% sure, it's the only thing I can think of that would explain the massive drop in hardware but modest drop in software.

It would make sense. As far as I know the PSP got a quite a few "big" games by 2008 (2 exclusive Final Fantasy games, 2 Monster Hunters, Phantasy Str portable, etc.)but looking back you wouldnt think that was the case.

Kind of a random question but does anyone have some historical total LTD numbers for Vita and PSP , specifically launch aligned if possible?

The only reason I ask is that I got bored earlier and went digging through some of the older weekly sales pages here on VGC and noticed something. The PSP sucked ass as far as software went in Japan, especially at the same point in it's life as the Vita is right now and I just want to see if VGC is accurate.

According to VGC (and if I aligned them correctly) here's what the situation looked like:

  • PSP Hardware - 11,246,086, Software - 23,190,670 (2.06:1)
  • PSV Hardware -  4,521,596,  Software - 17,228,250 (3.81:1)
From a hardware perspective Vita has only sold 40% as many consoles as the PSP but as far as software it's sold 75% as many games. Now the PSP did make a decent comeback thanks to Monster Hunter exploding and a late surge in 2010/2011 but I was suprised by how terrible it did from 2004-2008.
Did the PSP just not have many games releasing or were people just not buying games for it?

Wasn't piracy a major issue on PSP? I haven't heard about that being much of an issue for Vita.

Piracy and Japan don't match together, if we talk about piracy in a japanese sales thread you don't really know much about japanese culture.

Once, I told to a friend of mine to watch a movie that I enjoyed. When he realized that I download it, he was surprised and even scared. He told me that this is a crime, and you can go to prison for that.

Piracy is almost no existent in Japan.

Yakuza Kiwami and just cause 3 must be the greatest games ever with their 4+ rating XD

Or maybe the fanboys didn't target those games because they're not usually on their platform.

Pretty much.

BTW there are reports on Twitter that say that DQ Builders is running out of stock in some shops. Even the director/producer of the game said that the will have stock problems during the weekend and they are preparing a new shipment.

Maybe SE expected that the game will not a have a big debut and send a small shipment?
