Forums - Gaming - Switched my console of choice for the first time in 18 years - Part 3

good for you PS4+Wii U is the best combo but overall the PS4 is the best console this gen imo. Its just a good gaming device in general for the Price

So you changed from Sony to Nintendo?

He just said that he now plays both Wii U and PS4.

@OP welcome to the darkside.  The Wii U / ps4 is a very good combination so I'm happy for you.  And a nice thread too :)

Suprised it took you so long to try anything other than nintendo. My I first started really gaming with my N64, quality title after title but even then I regularly traded in, or swapped with freinds between 64 and PS1, and have since owned every console at sum point throughout the gen. Right now I own ps4,xbox one, wii u and 3ds

Interesting. I think it is great that you are expanding your Horizons (pun intended). IMO nothing but good things can happen when you expose yourself to diversity.

Interesting point you bring up about Nintendo being the social gaming platform. I, for the most part, find that to be true. Whereas XB and PS have been focusing on online social gaming (with the exception of a few games), it seems Nintendo is the brand that always keeps couch co-op in mind. Halo 5 losing splitscreen was of no consequence to me but I imagine a few people were sad that they could not play couch co-op like they had in previous iterations. Neither system has really had a racing game or fighting game that shines on game night as much as Nintendo has. Of all the games I have on PS4, Rocket League is the only one with splitscreen. I have enjoyed playing online with friends in Destiny/Rocket League/TLOU R etc, but I don't think couch co-op will ever be replaced. This is the one glaring fault with owning a Sony or Microsoft console IMO, with the exception of a select few games. They just never seem to be executed as well or catch on as much. (minecraft maybe?)
*Other uses for my PS4 include Spotify and Netflix. Great single player but game night pretty much will always be on the Game Cube in the living room*

I'm glad you can have the best of both worlds. PS4 has always been the home of narrative IMHO so you made the right choice there (examples include Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, The Last of Us, Uncharted etc; narrative is the PS strong suit). Nintendo will always be the home of face-to-face social gaming.

Then again maybe I agree with you so much because I've always been PS+Nintendo. Need any game recommendations, or games to look out for?

One of the reasons I kinda miss Spotify is because of the PS4 compatibility.

I switched to Apple Music because of the family plan pricing I agree that so far, it seems Sony has a lot of

good narrative. Excited to play more. I think I'm pretty well informed when it comes to what's releasing but if you could share your

recommendations anyway, I'd appreciate it. Maybe I'm overlooking something

I can't believe you switched to Sony after being on the side of good for so long... ;_; I feel so betrayed.... TRAITOOR!! TT_TT

...

Though I am surprised you were a Ninten-owner only. I thought you wouldn't be so much into console wars. Surprisingly, I don't think I was either. I had a GC, PS2 and DC during the 6th gen, and a PS3 and Wii during the 7th gen. I guess if I considered myself a Ninten fan, I would kinda be a bad one.. xD

Its just a game console, not a religious conversion, but welcome to Playstation, the one true path.

The way the game incorporates the school aspect in the game, without making it boring, but actually fun, along with how you socialize with people, sounded very interesting to me. And I'm glad I gave it a shot because I've been a huge fan since. If you can't play Persona 3 or 4, there's Persona 5 coming out soon for PS4. And it looks amazing.

Anyway, I was Nintendo-only until N64. After that I got a PS2. And I think everyone should try another console at some point, because it really gives you a different perspective. But unlike you, I got more interested in third party games when I got Sony's console, because Sony is just one developer, and there's just so many of quality on the system. The vast majority of my games on PS2 and PS3 have been third party games.
That said, right now there's not much on PS4 that interests me, but starting with Street Fighter 5, there will be a lot coming out for the system this year that I like, so I will get one when SFV comes out.

It's true, I did say I wanted to be more open minded

My brother has Persona Q on 3DS so I could play that to see if I'd like that sort of game. It does seem interesting with the school / nightmare realm thing going on. I kinda wanna just jump into Persona 5 tho, it looks like a lot was put into it. The animation & everything looks really good. Are the games continuous or can I jump right into 5?

I agree, it definitely gives a different perspective when you try new things, even with gaming. Glad to see you're interested in Street Fughter 5. Thought I was online in that for a bit there

If you liked TLOU you should give Uncharted a chance.
Uncharted 4 not only also comes from the same studio but was taken over by TLOU guys.
Have you played any PlayStation game older than PS4? Aside from TLOU.
You should really check older ganes, at least PS2 and PS3, but also PS1 definitely if you don't mind old graphics.

Well, I've had some access to PS in the past with my cousins and older brother but didn't get to play much of it at all. I'm a big fan of the older Resident Evil games and wanted to beat Dino Crisis but never got to. Am waiting for them to add PS classics to PS4. I basically only dabbled into other PS games likes Crash & Spyro but might as well of only played demos for them. I did recently beat ICO through PS Now. I'll certainly try to play more of the older games when they become available.

As for Uncharted? I played a demo on my cousins PS3 and didn't care for it too much. It was the 2nd game. I've never been a fan of the Indiana jones / treasure hunting setting either. With that said, TLOU was awesome so it does make me kinda want to give it a full chance. I keep 2nd guessing it tho

You should be able to jump right into Persona 5. Like the other numbered Persona games, it seems to have no direct correlation to the others. There are usually some references to other games, and there may be a returning character or two (that won't be in your party), but the story should be stand-alone.
And yeah, looks like they put in a lot of work into it. They even skipped the PS3 era.

About Persona Q though, that one is an exception, and it's not really a Persona game. It's an Etrian Odyssey game with Persona characters, and a story around the characters from Persona 3 and 4. Nothing else in the game is related to those games though. The gameplay and combat system is based on Etrian Odyssey, and nothing that made Persona into what it is is really in that game. So unforunately it won't give you an insight into what they are like, other than learning a bit about the characters.

And there are some Street Fighter V fans here on the site. Someone wil probably set up a forum tournament later. =p

That's what I noticed, they skipped the PS3 which means the upgrade will probably be quite big. Glad to hear the stories aren't continued, makes it much easier on me getting into it.

I'll probably not play Q then. I'm not too big into handhelds and if it has little connection anyway, no point in it

Maybe I'll join the Street Fighter stuff depending on if I'm available. Most tournaments seem to be on the weekend for obvious reasons but I can't play much then
