Forums - Gaming - PSVR is NOT its own gaming device or a 2nd system!!!.

Could somebody please explain to me why people are even seriously discussing this?

Who cares if "own gaming system" or whatever is an appropriate description for PSVR? Well, obviously many people here do - but I just cannot understand WHY? What difference does it make?
I don't mean to just rant about this being a stupid discussion, but somehow I'm just not getting it and (seriously!) hope someone can explain to me why there should/could be any relevance to this question?

My personal opinion by the way is that PSVR is in many ways similar to the Wii U gamepad: It's a piece of hardware that includes a screen and a few motion sensors and does not working standalone, but requires additional hardware in order to actually play games on it. And since the Wii U gamepad is a peripheral, so is PSVR in my opinion.

just another zero thread that exist because he is fed up with a simply other opinion of one or two user and he goes "Im rigt you are wron"

Do for once something I do all the time?

"it is a gaming system in its own right, runs VR games, but requires the PS4 to run"

Do you not see the clear contradition in that statement?

There is no contradiction in terms. It's using the processors of the PS4 and some of its own in order to deliver something that isn't possible on the PS4 alone. The PS4 can't run a 1080p game at 120fps but PSVR can. PSVR is hardware you wear over your head, has its own specialised screen and its own games. Yes, there will be a lot of games that will be playable on the PS4 too, but they won't be the same experience ... not even close. MOVE just interacted with the PS4 to deliver a new way of playing on the TV. Kinect just interacted with the XB1 to deliver a new way of playing on the TV. PSVR is an exerience impossible to deliver on the TV and as such is hardware in its own right. It's not a gimmick like the MOVE, Kinect or 3D and will have a future, whether it's now or later. PSVR is a self contained experience that cannot be done on the PS4.

The simplest way of understanding the difference is to consider Blu-ray players. No one ever considers the fact you require a TV because its sell to people who already own a TV. This is the approach Sony are taking with the PSVR.

It's an acessory, move on.

I don't know if you're aware but you just joined in on this 'stupid' discussion.

You're misinterpreting me. I really just tried to understand if there is any actual relevance to this question, because I couldn't see any. But since I realized that my previous posting might appear as me just ranting "Jeez, what a stupid and pointless discussion", I tried to explicitely point out that my posting really wasn't meant that way, that I'm really just wondering. Apparently, that didn't really work out.

OK guys Thunderbird77 has spoken and we all know he is always right so we can end this discussion right here.

AAhh sorry!

All in all there is little point to the whole discussion, you are right.

I think it's time to let this thread die. It's not acheiving anything and only created to act as a soap box for rol and zero.

Well yea, it is a peripheral. You can't say that it is not amusing to see someone argue that it is a new console though.

Mhm...

I might have been called out for being condescending in this thread, but at least I had the decency to do it against people who were wrong. Being condescending to people because they are right, like you and others have done, is a different ballpark.

The only viable solution to this thread is that Zekkyou posts a verdict like I asked for in my previous post. Not just any mod, it has to be Zekkyou. Why? Because his statements that were based on incomplete information have led others to believe that both perspectives can be valid in this discussion.

I think you need to read what I have written because I agreed with your point but I don't agree that your opinion is the only conclusion. You've ignored a few of my comments any failed to debate in a decent manor with other peoples opinions because you are intent on pushing your opinion and only your opinion.

Hense why I said this thread is just a soap box for you and zero.

While it's clearly not its own system in the literal sense, i don't think it's unreasonable for some people to treat it like one. It's certainly not so unreasonable that we should be mocking people that hold that view.

Bar actual independence, it has all the characteristics of an independent system, and will likely be treated as such by developers in many instances. It even requires a separate piece of hardware to the PS4 to fully function. So while it might lack the true independence it'd need for me to consider it a genuinely separate platform (and I've not actually seen anyone argue to the contrary), it differs significantly from how i see most other peripherals.

In essence, this is a battle of literal definitions versus real-world perception. Neither perspective is inherently wrong, nor do they actually contradict. I expect most will sit in the middle.

But you probably won't listen to me. But I know that you will change your tune if Zekkyou posts again.

Mine and zeks opinion on the matter align. I'm not sure what you've been reading.

I think you're multiquote as messed up.

Either way I'm not quite sure what you are trying to prove. I've just quoted Zekk, I have the same stance as Zekk but for some reason I'm wrong and he's right!

You aren't making sense.
