Forums - Gaming - PSVR is NOT its own gaming device or a 2nd system!!!.

"it is a gaming system in its own right, runs VR games, but requires the PS4 to run"

Do you not see the clear contradition in that statement?

There is no contradiction in terms. It's using the processors of the PS4 and some of its own in order to deliver something that isn't possible on the PS4 alone. The PS4 can't run a 1080p game at 120fps but PSVR can. PSVR is hardware you wear over your head, has its own specialised screen and its own games. Yes, there will be a lot of games that will be playable on the PS4 too, but they won't be the same experience ... not even close. MOVE just interacted with the PS4 to deliver a new way of playing on the TV. Kinect just interacted with the XB1 to deliver a new way of playing on the TV. PSVR is an exerience impossible to deliver on the TV and as such is hardware in its own right. It's not a gimmick like the MOVE, Kinect or 3D and will have a future, whether it's now or later. PSVR is a self contained experience that cannot be done on the PS4.

The simplest way of understanding the difference is to consider Blu-ray players. No one ever considers the fact you require a TV because its sell to people who already own a TV. This is the approach Sony are taking with the PSVR.

The PS5 Exists.

Was the sega 32x considered a console or an attachment?

The same categorization would apply to PSVR.

What at do you win? A trophy?

Trophies are exclusive to Playstation gamers so only we get those :)

Last time I will try and get through, if you can't see it after this then I give up.

It's depends how you look at psvr and how much value you put on it. Some people see it as a significant piece of hardware. It's like buying a car without the engine, the PS4 is the engine. Neither is an add on to each other. Some people don't give it the same value as others in which case they see the PS4 as the car and the psvr as the sat nav. Does that make sense?

Since it's subjective both opinions aren't wrong.

I think i agree with GribbleGrunger here, even if i don't care much.

They could make the box stronger to run game without ps4, but they have choice to use ps4, for be parts of same ecosystem.

And i don't know atm how is build PSVR, but i think some guy will hack this for use them on pc since this cost less than a occulust rift ?

Achievements are better than Trophies!!!!!!11 PROVE ME WRONG , YOU CAN'T!

But yeah... wtf at this thread.

For people suggesting that a platform for gaming can't rely on some other hardware to run it all you need to do is look at both the 32x and Mega CD both platforms had their own software but also required a Megadrive to run.

Regarding the Move (and possibly PSVR) being just a peripheral to the PS3/PS4 respectfully keep in mind then that the PSmove while a peripheral for PS3 games and the Wonderbook, is also completely compatible with the PS4 as such the gaming platform which is the PSVR could very well be compatible with future Playstation releases just as the move is not tied to being a PS3 peripheral. Sony obviously just aren't going to even utter the suggesting of a new console while the PS4 is selling like hot cakes right now because they don't want to add anything into peoples minds who are going out to invest in a console to turn them away from what for now looks like the best investment in console gaming for the coming years.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

Could somebody please explain to me why people are even seriously discussing this?

Who cares if "own gaming system" or whatever is an appropriate description for PSVR? Well, obviously many people here do - but I just cannot understand WHY? What difference does it make?
I don't mean to just rant about this being a stupid discussion, but somehow I'm just not getting it and (seriously!) hope someone can explain to me why there should/could be any relevance to this question?

My personal opinion by the way is that PSVR is in many ways similar to the Wii U gamepad: It's a piece of hardware that includes a screen and a few motion sensors and does not working standalone, but requires additional hardware in order to actually play games on it. And since the Wii U gamepad is a peripheral, so is PSVR in my opinion.

I don't know if you're aware but you just joined in on this 'stupid' discussion.

By the sounds zero was fed up of another user describing it as a separate system so decided to make this thread. I'm not sure it went how he hoped for because not everybody agrees with him and a lot of people can understand how it can be seen as both which he still won't accept.

100% correct and I agree with you.
