No they shouldnt, games that are suposed ot be hard should never have an easy difficulty cause it defeats the purpose of the game. For example Dark Souls on easy would ruin the game and recently released Darkest Dungeon on easy would be a completly dumb game.

So no, some games only work when theyre hard and if its too hard for someone them dont play it.

The poll is an atrocity btw, the options make no sense, if you realy wanted to get ppls opinion a simple yes and no wouldve suficed, 500 options none of wich make much sense didnt quite work.

I love the souls games but I can never bring myself to want to start them again. Once the challenge is beat I find no satisfaction in attempting it again, just wastes my time. I'd love an easy mode unlock after you beat the the game the first time, the lore and world's are so well done that is love to go through them again, but it would take too lont

I strongly prefer when the gamer have the choice to lower or increase the difficulty because then he can enjoy it at his level and not be stuck. But i can't blame it on developers if they want their games to be really hard and not for everyone.
Maybe just put a label or sentence on the game box to state that it's quite difficult to avoid the "casual gamer" to buy the game an dislike it before of that

Phft! Wimps.

Hmm, pie.

Bloodborne has an easy mode fool, its the default option for a new game. You dont even get a choice, just shoved into the easy difficulty and are made to unlock harder difficulties.

Yes. And better not be locked behind an amiibo.

To be honest, yes it would be great if all games had an easier mode. But I wont complain if the devs don't want to add an easy mode (if that's their intent) and they shouldn't complain if I don't buy it because of that. And I doubt its difficult to program an easy mode.

My first experience was with Demon's Souls. Loved the atmosphere, the style, the monsters etc..I was so pumped to play it when I got it Day1...but then I just couldn't get far at all because I kept dying and now I will never attempt to play it again. And because of this, I've turned away from the Dark Souls series and Bloodborne as well. As much as I love the art style and gameplay of those games I just wont spend money on games that I know I can't finish. So because of this, I now just simply turn away from these games.

Sure many of you have finished the game and some probably think my reason is ridiculous, but every gamer is different and has their strengths and weaknesses. I've met gamers that just couldn't deal with games like Street Fighter or CoD multiplayer saying that they're not skilled enough and will never play/buy it again. Whereas to me I find I'm pretty decent at it, but nothing to look down at them for if they can't play it.

But if all it takes for games like the Soul series is to just add an easy mode I can't see why they shouldn't add it and gamers like me will definitely buy it again giving their sales an extra boost.  But I'm not complaining.

i hate difficulty settings personally.

I don't know how many of you actually play the same game on different settings but it has a massive impact on if the game is "fun" or not. flying through a game that is waaaay to easy is no more fun that getting stonewalled in a game that is waaay to hard. and the worst part about a difficulty setting is in almost every game that supports an option forces you to restart the game if you decide later you picked the wrong option.

and then some games are just plain uneven. i was awesome at dead space except for that stupid asteroid blasting section where i died over and over and over and over again. i needed to be at the higher difficulty for most of the game but when i when to the highest difficulty i couldn't get past that part.

listen,.. there is a "science of fun". the most fun is had when the game is challenging but not insurmountable. what games should do is track your actions and depending on how amazing/terrible you are adjust the game's difficulty to match the players skill level during the gameplay.

but fuck difficulty options.

Ultimately, I don't care as long as my personal experience isn't dumbed down in any way.

But I think that the gaming community has gotten so big and filled with such a diverse group over the last 15-20 years, that people have come to expect that all games appeal to all people at all times. And that tends to affect the quality and variety of games, whether you want to admit it or not.

Deal with it
