I got my ps2 in june 2003 i think around that time. anyways my ps2 didn't read a music cd i just put in there, and it didn't read afew ps2 games(although they were a lil scratched) BUT it did just play a dvd movie. DO I have the disc read error? I think if i hve it, it wuldve hpnd a long time ago also my ps2 is modded. plz help cuz i wnt to buy the mgs collectors pack

its rlly hard to say, there could be dust on the lens,
i remember my ps2 stopped reading a few of my discs,
but they were scratched beyond reason.

they sell lens cleaners that are simple to use that are in dvd form.
try that.

i doubt its broken if it actually read a dvd with no problem.

Actually it sounds like your DVD laser is misaligned. Look up the fix on google, you can easily open it up and re-align the laser. The "Cannot read CD's" problem is a symptom of the misalignment.

It sounds like it's starting. I had it - and shipped it back to Sony after talking to them on the phone. It started when it couldn't read a few PS2 games, then it wouldn't play PS1 games and finally gave me the error a few times before it would play my games. It gives me the error now on my HD Loader disc, but that's about it. 

iight i just sprayed the hell out of my disc tray. it should work now.

Sorry man.. your ps2 is likely to be dead. That's one of the main reasons Sony won the last generation is people would have to replace their ps2s every few years.

Follow DarkNight_DS's advice and link. DRE can be fixed at home. It might need to be redone in a few months, but it will be easier after your first time. DRE is curable at home with a little effort. :)
