Forums - Nintendo - Double Take: Xenoblade Chronicles X Sales Indicate Market for JRPGs on Nintendo Consoles

Personally I think the sales are inflated due to the lack of competition for RPGs on the Wii U and secondly due to the lack of games in general.

Nintendo fans didn't have much else new to choose from in November and December so it's inevitable that X gets a boost. 200k+ in the US is definitely good for the game but you're not going to see 3Rd party RPG developers rushing back to support them.

Sales of most jrpgs released for nintendo consoles indicate there's an obvious big market there.

Would like to see more JRPGs on the Wii U..

Really glad the 3DS got a lot of games so hopefully the next home system will be able to get some more too

That is still in line of what the article suggest. There is indeed a market for core RPGs on Nintendo consoles*.

*if it's Nintendo developed and only releases every 5 years

Yeah oddly enough fantasy-mideval RPG style games have been doing well on Nintendo platforms lately.

Zelda and Hyrule Warriors isn't a huge shocker, but Fire Emblem all of the sudden becoming a fairly sizable seller for Nintendo and now Xenoblade X outperforming other types of games on the Wii U makes you go hmmm.

Maybe Nintendo should make more fantasy/mideval IP.

Xenoblade isn't fantasy or medieval though?

Most games on thhe system are inflated due to lack of other options. Sadly for Xeno blade I do not think there were many who downloaded it. Way to difficult.

On Japan around 25% of sales are digital.

Every game that bombed on the WiiU was also released with a lack of options and competition, yet they bombed, and very hard, XCX however, in the same scenario, didnt bombed. There is an audience, period.

It sold decently in the United States, I'm glad, although it seems like data from the game is weird.

The Volkampf Tyrant is the best way to calculate the game's sales (I'm sorry, VGChartz isn't). 290K people have beaten that boss in the West, and considering that X has maybe sold 220K copies in the States, either the internal data from the game is flawed, many people have beaten the boss while offline or it sold badly in Europe.

Nonetheless, the game is sitting right now at 400-450K units right now worldwide, which is better than nothing.

I kind of always doubted if this number is for the entire west, as it dosnt make much sense, because of 2 reasons:The Wii U is region locked, so why would it have data of 2 different regions? And even if it had numbers from the whole west, why wouldnt it have Japan?Second reason would be the numbers we know for certain.Us sold at least 200k in december, with more being higly possible, and thats retail only. Now, if we were going to put numbers we know in europe for ceartain, it would be 10k in first week in UK and 40K in France in less than 2 weeks, and that dosent include the rest of the weeks, other countrys of europe and digital. So physical alone is at the very least 250k.So digital, and rest of sales in europe make up for 40k?The numbers just dont add up.So going off alone by the number of kills of that tyrant is misleading.Either the number is regional, or the number of people playing offline is very high, which is likely, since you guys underestimate the number of people that dont use internet on consoles.(i dont use it for PS4 for example)So no, the game is sitting higher than 400-450 k, thats for certain.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.
