It's purely speculation but it's a prevailing theory. Nintendo unified it's handheld and homeconsole divisions under Iwata ref. Also rumors have flown around about the concept ref. Of course this is all topped off by wishful thinking. Nintendo has been fighting two fronts without aid from third parties for the most part. They could double their library if they conserted their efforts onto a unified platform. Actually I just remembered Iwata spoke about this ref

At earliest its holiday 2016. Developers have already had kits in their hands since last year so they are just finalizing the parts. I think Nintendo is trying to salvage whats left of the generation.
