Forums - Gaming - A World Without the Magnavox Odyssey ...

Can you imagine a world without that vital creation to the gaming industry from Ralph H. Baer, William Harrison and William Rusch?

The first commercial home video game console that pretty much made Nintendo enter electronics and make their first venture into videogames when they sought to secure the rights to distribute the Magnavox Odyssey?

The videogame world may be very different today if it weren't for the Magnavox Odyssey.

It's funny cause it's true. Well, sorta true...

I was born in 1992, so I was a kid in SNES-PS1 era.

However, I wonder how people that were kids in the 70's reacted when they turned on the Odyssey for the fist time in their TVs. I suppose it was something really impressive for it's time.

Thanks for everything, Odyssey. It had Pong.

Sure, it's significant from a technological standpoint.

Hm, if the Odyssey did not happen, another would eventually venture out and do the same thing.. is the world of what if possibilities

I'd imagine without that vital piece we wouldn't be where we are at today, well in terms of tech at least since I could imagine someone creating such a device sometime later on.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.
