I wouldn't really mind that. The NSMB games are fun, but they've just been repeating themselves since the first one. I think they need to shake up the 2D mario games a bit, come up with something new besides more costumes for Mario to wear.

I really hope so. Bringing back 2D Mario games was cool at first but now it's just gotten stale in a market flooded with 2D platformers.

"I think it will be the HDS"-Me in regards to Nintendo's next handheld.
I don't think so.. Nintendo can always incorporate something into the newer game, but that said, the style is pretty much perfected and there isn't much that can be changed :/

Maybe they should just call it Super Mario Bros 5.
Both the original series (SMB 1,2,3 and World which is subtitled SMB 4) and NSMB (DS, 2, Wii, Wii U) have had 4 main games now. This way they can sort of 'merge' them into a single series again.

Never stated that, just that if future editions of SMM releases New Super Mario Bros. will be less relevant, if they can create tools that enables making levels on the same quality as NSMB.
| Pavolink said: No. New Super Mario Bros U has elements and level design impossible to recreate in SMM. Actually, SMB3 and SMW too. |
Instead of a new NSMB they could release a new SMM game which makes those elements of level design possible. I think if they try to keep both series alive they will just compete with themselves.
Whoever thinks NSMB will return anytime soon, is insane. Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka were quoted saying that they wish to make a 2D Mario game that exceeds New Super Mario Bros. They're beating a dead horse. Sure, they sell well but who's to say a new 2D Mario won't sell better? I want to see something different. It's no longer New Super Mario Bros. It's hand me down Super Mario Bros.
SMM won't end the SMB series. It would really be good to push for a 3D mario style game for NX than a 2D.
2D Mario needs something new rather than what the Wii, DS, Wii U and 3Ds have brought - they are all similar. Compared what SMB 1,3 and even SMW. they are all different compared on what they are developing similar ones every 2-3 years recently.

Is Super Mario Maker the end of the "New Super Mario" series? This title implies that SMM is part of the NSMB series.
