Wait, I thought Splatoon was supposed to sell Wonderful 101 levels :P

Check the numbers: it did!

You're right! Guess the decimal is just in the wrong spot for Splatoon. :P

This is wonderful! :P

Splatoon will likely sell 6m at this rate...

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

I never understood why people thought Splatoon would bomb. Any genre Nintendo has entered with their own developed game (that I can recall) has dominated. It was only a matter of time before they would tap into shooters and now they have and are doing insane. This game may outsell Halo 5...

It is the Mariokart/Smash of shooters.

Remember a year ago, when people were doubting Splatoon, and that it was gonna bomb big time?

Mmm, the good ol' days...

I really need to shop Splatoon on there but I'm lazy =P.

The moment I saw the game though I knew it was going to do good.

New IP, only having 5 maps and one mode at launch, Nintendo's habit of not usually advertising Wii U games, Wii U's small install base.

I confess, my own projections were dead wrong; I expected a little under 1m lifetime.

All I needed was to watch a couple of matches on the Nintendo treehouse feed in 2014 and see the immediate positive reaction on the internet to convince me it was going to be a good game (while the major sites almost disregarded it in favor of whatever western AAA game was unveiled and 20 seconds of glitchy Bloodborne footage).  Even then, I thought 1.5m was what it would probably get, 2-2.5m if Nintendo advertised it and 3m if everything worked out perfectly.  Now 5-6m seems more accurate (10-15m if it gets ported to the NX because there's a ton of people who want to get the game but don't want to buy a Wii U).

Would also be nice and good for Nintendo if they continue to support the game on NX, I could definitely get behind that.

http://www.vgchartz.com/game/82965/splatoon/  3.93m

Sorry, I couldn't resist... XD

And in 1/3 the time too. :P

How accurate do you think those numbers are for Splatoon (considering vgchartz figures are sometimes inaccurate)?  I wasn't even aware it broke 3m yet, yet alone being close to 4m sold.  In any case, Nintendo got themselves another legitimate system seller along with 3D Mario, Smash, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, mainline Zelda and mainline Pokemon.  Now, if only they can manufacture a legit Teen/Mature rated system seller.  Still amazes me that in 30 years, they still haven't made one that broke out.

the key is that Nintendo has almost NEVER made Teen or M rated games on their own with their studios

they've paid other studios to exclusively make them (examples like 007/Perfect Dark with Rare, Eternal Darkness with whoeverthehell made that) but have not even really tried making adult games

I think Nintendo could grab a huge market share if they simple began developing more of a mix of games. They have the party/platforming/adventure categories down pretty strongly but some reason have not really attempted to make their own adult games

Nintendo should hire more employees and make a studio or two SPECIFICALLY dedicated to more adult games

occasionally adult games release on Nintendo consoles but they are always third party. Nintendo has shown they are capable of making great games in all genres, I just really wish they would be open minded to in-house production of some horror or action games

and why should it be celebrated? for me and many W101 is actually the better game and what about operation Platinum? I dont get this thread why is it necessary?

I'm in the mindset that Nintendo should just create a studio focused on those types of games that's completely separate from the Nintendo brand to the extent that it's almost like a 3rd party so as to not to mess with the family friendly image they cherish so much.
