Forums - Nintendo - Wii Fit to be previewed (and tested) at UK Science Museum

Source

London's Science Museum is to preview Nintendo's forthcoming Wii Fit next Wednesday as it aims to discover whether video games can aid weight loss.

The museum, with the help of epidemiologist Andy Jones from the University of East Anglia, plans to discover if modern, interactive technology can increase fitness levels.

A spokesman from the museum said: "Visitors will have the opportunity to try out Wii Fit for themselves and watch as its effectiveness is put to the test in a series of live tests. Human guinea pigs will be put through their paces exercising on a treadmill, testing out Wii Fit and playing a more sedentary game, whilst measurements of their heart rate and oxygen consumption are taken to calculate how much energy is burnt.

"Throughout the evening sport scientists, physiologists and games experts will be on hand to engage and discuss whether gaming can promote a healthy lifestyle."

The Nintendo-sponsored Play Away the Calories event, which is offering free admission, begins at 7pm.

Wii Fit is scheduled for a UK release on April 25.

Ah sweet I'm going on a trip to London, Methinks I shall check this out

If this is the start of what Nintendo will be doing to promote Wii Fit, I can't wait to see what they do in the US. This is clearly a mass consumer ad campaign vs the traditional gamer centric one.

If you go, you better come back with a full review!!!!

Pity I had to go to Toronto next week. Otherwise, I can go straight there, with the free admission at all.

My Games of 2011:

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Super Mario 3D Land

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception

Very interesting, but I wonder if they'll do it right.

Even Miyamoto said the game itself won't make you fit, it's better for keeping you on track.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I hope to god there new big announcement at E3 has nothing to do with Wiifit

There's a guy who's been doing an experiment just exercising with Wii Fit and blogging it. He's getting stronger, fitter and losing weight. I'll see if I can find the link. If you workout for an hour a day there's no way it won't make you fitter and if you're using Wii Fit to do it then Wii Fit is making you fit. Miyamoto was just covering his ass before the US launch and inevitable class action lawsuit.
