Forums - Gaming - Some Game Prices in Canada Have Risen to $85

I'm just waiting for PS+ (and XBLGold) subs to get a price increase, which would be really unfortunate for the Canadians. Currently 1 year of PS+ is CAD49.99, which is just USD35.46. A CAD20 increase in price or something similar could very well happen if the Canadian Dollar doesn't recover or goes down even further.

Time to lengthen your PS+ subs, folks!

Is crazy expensive, which is why I'm barely buying any games day 1

Games on the 3DS can go to $67 dollars when MSRP is $50 now and 2 years ago was $40 D:

Donald Trump will put a stop to that, by crashing the US economy the CAD will be great again. Trump 2016

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

The CAD isn't done dropping either. I heard it would be in the 60s before it hits bottom. It has forced me to narrow my day one purchases to like 3 per year. Either that or I give up gaming completely because this is getting ridiculous. My semester-long gym membership is cheaper than buying a game day 1 here!

I remember when our dollar was worth more than the greenback

I can feel your pain. I remember back in the early nineties, when some games retailed around here for more that 120€. The most expensive game I've ever bought is Mortal Kombat 2 on the Snes, I paid 135 to 140€ for it.

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

Back in the early N64 days when the Canadian dollar was around 60 cents to the USD, it was the norm for N64 games to cost $80. I remember seeing a flyer once advertising Doom 64 for $120.00. Looks like we are just going back to that!

The prices seem to be all over the place too. Street Fighter V will retail at $70 yet Black Ops 3 and Fallout 4 still retail at $80. A few games are coming out at $75 too

I guess it'd be cheaper for you just to buy it from a US website and have it shipped to you.

The price of shipping would not make it worth it.

Just embrace digital .... I got Rise of the Tomb Raider for $52.75 CDN including tax during the Xmas Xbox One sales.

It would of cost $75 plus tax at retail.

Physical can be sustainable. Bundles are great, and depending on how many times you intend to play a game, trade-ins are a good option too. For instance, buying MGSV, The Witcher 3 and Fallout 4 for launch price - and trading them in after playing them to buy each other game - saved me quite a bit of money. Ignoring GST, see the following:

Batman Arkham Knight: Originally $70 as a standalone, I got it in my PS4 bundle and traded in for $35 credit (Net -$15 as bundle was $50 more than standalone PS4)

Metal Gear Solid V: Originally $75, I bought for $40 and traded in for $40 credit (Net $0)

Fallout 4: Originally $80, I bought for $40 and traded in for $45 credit (Net +$5)

The Witcher 3: Originally $70, I bought for $25 (haven't finished yet) (Net -$25)

Total net $: -$35

Managed to play all those games at launch price yet only lose $35 total in the process.

*edit* At the same time, ebgames gives you considerably less than you could probably get on Kijiji, so a cycle of selling the games on Kijiji and putting the money towards the new games would result in even less money lost.

If you include taxes I owuld have spent ~$75 total to play all those games at launch
