In Japan MK8 sold more than MK:DD *.

(In Europe it is closing in on MK64 and could get to be fourth best selling MK game)

This is crazy, Splatwon (yup...) should be a launch title for the NX then nintendo wouldn't have to worry about Japan and can focus only on the west.
