Hmmm... Only thing i could do for a comparison is the holiday month. MK+Splatoon is just so easy because they follow the same exact schedule! I do know SMM is ahead launch align to splatoon, but obviously the gap will shrink as Splatoon didn't have the holidays yet!

FF 7 is a remake, making the appeal limited everywhere, even more so in japan.

Well to be fair it's a remake of a 10mil selling game. In Japan it sold over 4mil.
In comparison Oras sold 3mil to its original 5.5 million game!

Pokemon is on a whole different level and I think the japanese won't like the action focused FF 7. The episodic thing won't help.
Not surprising considering how weak it was MK8 as an entry of the franchise.

That's right, the FFVII remake is action oriented! Maybe that's why they did all those surveys about FFVII and Persona 5, to avoid competing with a title closer to japanese tastes?
Unfortunately mk8 dips out of the top 20 in march, but we know it sells 19.5k in feb. I think splatoon can beat both months together in jan, lets see!

FF7R will add stuff and change some things around, so that may help it sell, the problem is to follow sales, since they would be splitted in Episode 1, Episode 2, etc, and you can't add them up since it is just one game at the end of everything, the only way to properly traack the game would be to either go by Episode 1 numbers or t he last Episode's numbers. So it is just a mess and difficult to track overall.
COMG guide to points: 1 point = Raging. 2 points = Beasting. 3 points = Tearing it up. 4 points = Berzerk. 7 points = Rampage. 12 points = Burst. 15 points = god mode. 20+ points = DIVIDING BY ZERO!!! 40+ points = Youkai (originally Pokemon).
