Forums - Nintendo - Microtransactions Gone Crazy - Bad EA!

Microtransactions itself is a bad enough thing IMO because it encourages companies to skip out on adding features/polish that would add to the base game but this is just insane.

"Word from the Battlefield: Bad Company beta test is that several weapons in the game's arsenal are locked, with "Available for purchase on Xbox Live Marketplace" notations next to them. In total 10 weapons are listed as for sale, with five of them also available in the Gold Edition of the game. What this basically means is that people willing to drop a little extra cash, be it in the store or on Xbox Live, will have more weapons to choose from than someone who scrapes together just enough to pick up the game itself."

Reminds me of the set of weapons and a map (or more?) with the booster packs in Battlefield 2.

Game development costs are skyrocketing (especially on the 360 and the PS3), so I guess they have to find a way to survive in the business...

That's pretty gay of EA, but it doesn't surprise me.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

You should see their NFS: Pro Street model. They've been the same with it. $1.99 per car that was already made into the game.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

Hmm, and I had actually planned on buying this.  O'well, plenty of other games to get this year.

Well, we are talking about EA here. What do people expect?

With the ways EA are doing things now, i'm surprised there is anything on the disc for the $60. And EA will continue to do it, just look at Rockband, each week they have about 3-5 different items to buy.

It's EA, enough said

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints
