Forums - Gaming - How long must a game so you can buy it?

It doesn't really matter to me. I usually spend double or triple or more time just working on getting achievements in a game. So even with an 8-10 hour game I might spend 20 or more hours on (especially the ones that require playing through it at different skill levels).

Length is subjective for each game. Some games need longer campaigns or single-players than others, and a lot of this is dependent on the genre.

Length isn't important. Take Half Life 2. For me it's only a good game. Not great. Why?
It took me 13 hours. 4 of which they should have cut straight out. To much tedious arseing around. See Halo 3 on the other hand is 8 hours long but never tedious. I hate when developers think they better make it longer and have those stringy out sections which ruin the experience. Devs should just tell there story and if it's 8 hours so be it. As long as it's a mind blowing experience that far outways a 30 hour game with only 12 hours worth playing.

Those "tedious" sections were called a "plot."  Some games have this complex mechanic called "dialogue" in which they deliver this thing called a "story" which you think through using your "brain."

Seriously Half-Life 2 may not be for everyone, but it's a story driven game and respect it as such.  It in no way overstayed it's welcome if you like complex story development.

I agree. If your a 360 owner, games seem more valuable due to Gamerscore. It becomes a greater challenge afer you've finished the story. And funnily enough it's not boring to do. I'd say because of the Game achievements my games have had much more value.

The driving section was boring as was the rooftop and graveyard section. Completely unessary and would've been easily taken out and still had all the story.

Anyway, topic.

It's funny that people constantly complain that games aren't long enough and want these massively epic 80 hours games yet most people don't get further than 10-12 hours into games (single player ones at least).

And before everyone comes back and tells me they always finish every game, you are not the majority. People on forums like these do not represent the majority for many games at all.

-edit-

And yes Selnor, your sig is too big.

if the game is terrible (lair) i wont buy it even if its 50 hours long.

the game just needs to be good and have good online. i will very rarely buy a single player game for 70 bucks, with an exception to uncharted

depends on the quality and the price.

TMNT: turtles in time (snes)= 25 minutes to beat. one of the greatest games ever made. $10= good value.

cannon spike (dc)= 30 minutes to beat. another very fun mulitplayer title that's hard to find. $20= good value.

etc.

RPGs, Adventure and Platform games for 1 player must be atleast 15+ hours otherwise it's a no no

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)
