Forums - Nintendo - Source: Kid Icarus sequel to arrive on Wii in 2008

you know, I've been thinking about it and I'm pretty sure that Kid Icarus (when and/or if it comes out) will be the Wii's definitive third person perspective shooter/adventure game.

Back when the Wii came out, third person shooters were mostly relegated to movie cash ins. And one interesting part about the reviews of such movies (like the Chicken Little game) was the statements that while first person games seemed to have some pretty serious control issues (they meant red steel), the third person perspective games seemed to handle IR aiming much much better, since only aim, and not field of view were effected.

But since then, there's really only been one game to capitalize on that perspective; Resident Evil 4. The game demonstrated beyond a doubt that third person shooter controls kick copious amounts of rump on the Wii. But since then, few if any games have taken a similar perspective. Kid Icarus could be that game.

So it's my prediction that the next Kid Icarus will be like a much faster, more platform and exploration based version of RE4.

yup.
I'm honestly thinking that RE4 on the Wii is the *best* game on the platform at the moment. I just can't stop playing it, and its so far beyond the GC version. Taking the same mechanics into the KI world, with MP3 tech... would rock too hard.

It would have to be "Second coming of Christ" brilliant to be able to sell well.

Kid Icarus (1987 for NES) is widely regarded as one of the greatest games of all time. The game successfully combines elements of Nintendo's three biggest franchises -- Zelda, Mario, and Metroid -- in that lead character Pit can "jump like Mario, collect items like Link, and shoot enemies like Samus."

This game is HUGELY overrated. Anyone who hasn't played it but thinks it's great should download it from the VC. Still, that of course doesn't mean a new game can't be good.

The game has gotten it's reputation from people that have been gaming for a long time(for the most part). It's not like Pac-Man or Mario, in that pretty much everyone in the gaming world has at least played it. For a moderate hit to be remembered this long and this fondly, speaks enough for itself.

I played it again last year for the first time since 89/90 and enjoyed every minute of it.

A good showing at E3 would help that along.

Imagine if its like a full length Zelda type game.

Imagine if its like Beyond Good and Evil.

ZOMFG.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

The air-humping begins. There was a lot of speculation that Factor 5 was going to do this game, but I just want it out, and I want it to be good. Some games deserve real, quality sequels *cough* NiGHTS *cough*

Here's the rub.

What if its been in development since Pit was announced for SSB:B, and there are references to the game in Brawl that we just didn't know about yet.

There are secret references.  In order to see them you need to beat All-Star mode on the highest difficulty within 8 minutes with at least 5 characters.  Now what are you waiting for, go to it!
