I mean is it even "important" in todays gaming world |
Ah, but there's the rub. All of Nintendo's critics repeat themselves:
Nintendo development is nothing but past games revisited, with the same gameplay.
Here Nintendo has the chance to basically create a new IP, with Kit, and using Brawl as a jumping off point, they are basically creating a brand new game with unknown gameplay.
Have we seen the characters before, and heard the name? Sure. Long ago, a cheap repetitive game was made with the name Icarus, but this game, 20 years later, uses the characters underground Nintendo mascot status as an excuse to put him in Brawl and give him a voice, a following, and popularity.
Its foolish to say "Is this game relevant anymore" when you know as well as I that this game isn't Icarus by anything but name. Its a new game from Nintendo and it silences the critics who claim Nintendo development is getting stale.
Of course, if you are a person with sense, you realize that Nintendo development is anything but stale, and realize that new entries in existing franchises are often the best games ever released, and might be a bit dissapointed this new game isn't a new Zelda or Mario game.
I, on the other hand, am glad that Nintendo is creating a NEW game. No, it might not sell as well as its established franchises, but it could be a brand new experience from a Nintendo developed game, much like Metroid Prime was(The same thing was said about Metroid before its release).
The new Icarus is the revival of a name, and I'm VERY excited to see the direction Nintendo chooses to take. If we can look past sales potential this one time and get excited for this game, then we will have given Nintendo a chance to wow us once again. They haven't failed us yet.
Have faith, my friend.
