Which system will be replaced first, the 3DS or the WiiU?

The 3DS family. 63 39.38%

The WiiU. 40 25.00%

Both will be replaced sim... 43 26.88%

The Game Boy Micro will r... 14 8.75%

Total:160

Probably the Wii U, do to poor sales. The 3DS is still selling well, so I think they'll wait a bit longer to replace it.

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

I was thinking of the 2016 lineup. If we don't count the games already released in some region (because they thechnically have been released already), we have Pokkem Fighters (console version, not arcade), Mario & Sonic at the olimpics, StarFox Zero, Project Guard and Robot, Twilight Princess and Zelda U against Metroid Prime FF, Hyrule Warriors Legends and Mario & Sonic olimpic games. Even if we take into account a possible Pokemon Z and other titles not announced for both platforms, the WiiU has more games that are also bigger heavy hitters.

But yeah, I agree with you, Nintendo stopped supporting this gen and it's preparing the NX with all their studios.

True though none of those are actually made by Nintendo except Zelda U and I guess Guard and Robot, assuming they haven't been canned lol. Atleast the 3DS line-up will consist of games announced within the past year, not games we knew about years ago that were supposed to have released already. If we remove Zelda Starfox and Guard/Robot which were all 2015 games originally, then it becomes about the same as the 3DS' current line-up, but meh.

Lastly, I find it funny seeing these Ford Fusion ads in here. :L

It makes no sense to release a new handheld now.  The 3DS has sold more than the PlayStation 4 and is the winner of this generations video game systems.  I am not insulting Sony or Microsoft I respect them all.  The 3DS might be no where near the PS4 or XBOX One in power and graphic capability, but it still is powerful enough to play Wii games with the new version.  It doesn't need the power of the VITA for example as it has 3D, which is why it is so amazing.  It's 3D capabilities make it so marketable.  It has done so well that it doesn't need to be replaced for years to come.  The DS line was around for at least 6 years right?  So expect the 3DS to stay at least 2-3 more years.

Both the WiiU and the 3DS are in a very delicated position. The 3DS is losing steam quickly, and the power problem can't be solved with just an updated re-release of the hardware. The 3D worked at first, but now it seems gimicky (specially when VR is becoming the new trend). I think it could do well for a couple of years too, but it would damage most of the 3rd party support, something Nintendo doesn't want to loose on their handhelds. Developers now seek more power and a friendlier architecture, and the 3DS stopped being so a couple years ago. And with all the mobile tech avalible now, a really powerful and cheap HH is possible.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Illuminati confirmed. Nintendo will betray the Mercedes Benz alliance to go with Ford and help advertise the Fusion. It's all a conspiracy. XD

The issue is that 3DS sales have tumbled the last two years. 2015 is looking to be the second year in row the 3DS has had drops of over 30%. Nintendo can't allow that to continue, handhelds have been too important to their success.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

The fusion concept looks pretty likely, but it makes sense if the the 3DS got replaced first.. so I'm still guessing that the NX is a handheld, but being a home console is pretty likely now too

They do need to gain Western support afterall!

I think the biggest reason to drop the 3DS sooner is so Nintendo doesn't have to develop for two different systems anymore since as we've seen that doesn't work well anymore.

Both at the same time this holiday season.

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

It seems a bit silly to replace the 3DS when it's still selling so well, doesn't it?

IMHO it makes more sense to launch them at the same time (if they can provide enough software for both of them):

  • One big marketing campaign for both products is more efficient than two smaller ones.
  • Nintendo needs a successful launch with impressive adoption rate to get the gaming press on their side. With 2 different products sharing the same platform, the adoption rate will be higher (some people prefer home consoles, others prefer handhelds) than with separate launches
  • neither handheld fans nor home console fans will be pissed that they have to wait longer for "their" system
  • if there are some connectivity features between both devices, you don't have to wait for the second device to try them out
  • Nintendo could offer a bundle of both, many Nintendo fans would buy it

Spot on
