Doesn't work like that. In most retail stores, people can return items within so many days with a receipt. The store will sell those returned items as new or unopened. Easiest way to deal with it is each retail store inspect each return throughly and punish anyone who tries to return a false item. They are supposed to do that anyway but I guess some employees are either too lazy to check or they skip checking during rush hours.

If someone bought me a WiiU and I ended up with a PS2 inside the box I'd consider it the best Christmas surprise I'd ever received. Seriously kid, the scammer did you an immense favor.

A mouse & keyboard are made for sending email and typing internet badassery. Not for playing video games!!!

Daevon now has his Wii U and Burditt said she'll make sure this never happens again.

"Before you buy any kind of electronics from anywhere check the box before you walk out and pay for that,” Burditt said.

Great advice there! Maybe even games or any product at all!

I worked for Walmart when I was 17 (nearly 2 decades ago... WOW!!!). I worked in the entertainment department and I'd thoroughly check returns when they came back. My department told me to stop doing this because I'm opening unopened merchandise and it then becomes nearly impossible to sell. It wasn't till one day we'd received a 32" tube set and I opened it up to a box full of cinder blocks lol. Even after that they still wanted me to just accept returns unchecked. If that's the case they shouldn't return it to the shelves for sale.

Seriously, is it that much to ask for the employees to check the boxes when stuff is returned?
In my local game store, a guy tried to sell a PS3 with no hard drive. Didn't work out for him as they don't even pay you before checking the contents and verifying the machine works.

I'd be happier with the PS2 tbh :^)

Depends if the PS2 is actually in working condition and has all the necessary cables included. And getting games for a PS2 is not that easy anymore. And then there's the possibility that they already have one at home.

And I'm pretty sure the family preferred a Wii U by far, considering their reaction.

Wait, he wanted a Wii? DUN DUN DUN.
