Forums - Microsoft - Rumor: Microsoft considering a smaller, cheaper digital-only Xbox to compete with the Apple TV

I'd rather they create a XONE slim without the disc drive and only the bare bones and an small flash drive for the OS and you plug in your own HDD or use an internal one. That'd boost sales one hell of a lot, since a XONE at $200 ought to represent a huge price slash...

You say that like it's that simple? It's not going to magically boost sales.

Is Apple TV a viable competitor? Is it even selling?

The price might. When everyone can afford a rather powerful gaming machine (unlike the Wii U) it'll sell a lot more.

Its not an Xbox One if it can only use the windows store.

I know what you want to say, but if they drop the Xbox name on it there's no case. It could be compared to what Sony did with PlayStation Vita and PlayStation Portable.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

But the thing is Xbox is a gaming brand and non-gamers don't want to be associated with that. Look at how bad the pstv did. A better name would be Windows Tv

Oh, that definitely should be considered when naming the thing, if it ever releases. I was just talking about the possibility of them naming it Xbox as well. There are precedents.

I have doubts. Wouldn't make sense to simply make an Apple TV copy-cat, especially since how bad 2013 showed for the Xbox brand by pushing a "Tv" mantra. Its more likely just a slim Xbox One, which would make it my third one ;).

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

So kinda like Playstation TV, it could be an Xbox we pretend doesn't exist.

Anyhow, MS could just make a digital only $99 Xbox 360 and bundle it with a few notable games. It already has tons of apps and better games than competiting media boxes.

That dpesnt sound very smart considering the 360 has an 85m userbase.

I'm confused by your response.

The Xbox 360 is a great box for watching media even if you don't want to play games on it. So... MS could make a cheaper 360 and sell it as a media box that happens to have a fantastic library of games.

If they make a box that just support WIndows Store content, I hope its around $50. Because the Windows Store sucks for games.
