Forums - Gaming - Sonic Ruuuuumors: New Sonic is ambitious shelved idea brought back for PS4/XBO, Colors possibly to PC, SoJ did not intend Sonic 4 to be Sonic 4; SoA pushed it.

Wasn't Sonic 06 said to be ambitious at the time as well and that ended up... Well you know the rest.

The problem with 3D sonic is that they tried to be like 2D Sonic and it just hasn't worked no matter what they try, they should have made the 3D games their own thing and keep the 2D games around for the classic experience.

Sonic 06 was a rushed game which was ruined by glitches and broken gameplay. This one has been in development for at least 3 years and will come out next year.

It's difficult to be optimistic isnt it?

None of the modern Sonic games have really done it for me. Theres elements that work, yes. But if it continues to be bare bones... i don't know. I will wait and see.

As for Sonic 4 they mentioned in the article. I don't believe it. If SoJ thought that, they are absolutely oblivious. You can't call a game Sonic 4 and then pretend it wasnt supposed to live up to the legacy.

No no. Your missreading that alittle. Sega was making a mobile Sonic platformer that was not called Sonic "4". SoA saw it wanted it to bigger than was intended for and pushed calling it Sonic 4. SoJ agreed, but effort and budget didn't change.

Well, if thats what it happened then it is different. I'm not convinced because Sega of Japan has been about as clueless or more than SoA in recent years. I will just think the guilt is on both unless i know what happened exactly.

btw this is gonna anger people but i hope we get a new Sonic game in the vein of Sonic 06, minus the ridiculous mingling between humans and animals and the bugs. I would take more variety in levels aswell and tighter controls ofc. But that is the visual presentation i wished to see. That game made me so excited that i bough a 360 just to play it way back then.

Being in development for 3 years still doesn't mean it it can't rushed, it could have had versions that were scrapped and restarted and so on, as Sonic goes it's hard to expect much froom any 3D game at this point. Sonic 06 was said to be ambitious and that's what it comes down to, no one knew what was going on until after the game had released.

Wrydness, you beating a dead horse maaaaaaaaaaan. Your original statement was already referenced in the actual article and you just took a different game and then regurgitated it. Sonic 06 wasnt a disaster for being ambition, but a development hell of the highest order.

- Original director left a took half the team to do Secret Rings, because they realized that Wii was not a HD Console

- Was replaced by Shun Nakamura who only directed one game in his career

- They did not fully understand PS3/360

- Yuji Naka leaves taking pretty much the senior Sonic Team members with him

- Game had to be done by Sonic anniversary.

You get the my point? because your havent made one

Why won't they just let Sonic die a peaceful death instead of trying to reanimate a corpse? Sonic games over the last 15+ years or so have ranged from OK to downright horrendous and made several "worst games of the year" lists in the process.

The only Sonic game SEGA should make is by taking a cue from Nintendo and reboot the 2D games a la NSMB or DKC Returns.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

I think you missed the point, the whole issue is at this point them saying the next Sonic game is ambitious doesn't mean much because the same was said about that game. The fact it had problems doesn't negate the point but only adds to it as no one was aware of those issues at the time of the game being announced.

The key to pulling it out is by releasing a revolutionary TRUE Sonic 4 which is worthy of the name Sonic The Hedgehog. Like I said, Sonic use to stand for something. He was the punk rock to Mario's Frampton. Sega needs to give him that identity back some how and make him appear "cool" again. I just don't see how that's possible being a Wii-U exclusive.

When Sonic first came out, rudeness and attitude were cool, and being happy and positive was seen as dorky. It's the complete opposite now (at least in the US). Right now, advertisers try to make everyone in the ads look as smiley and excited-with-life as possible. Sonic's original ethos doesn't fit in with that at all, so I don't think trying to emulate what made him cool in the 90's will work at all.

I'd love a Steam release of Colors, too lazy to get it on Wii.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."
