Ya, let's ignore the Nintendo device that has sold over 55 million.....

I never said they shouldnt give a new handheld a try.

But them being relevent in consoels is over, wiiu killed them there.

This thread isn't solely about consoles though, and if Nintendo were to stop making consoles but continue making handhelds, don't u think they would invest in making sure the handheld was as big of a success as possible instead of supporting competitor devices?

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

Its basically people who want to play Nintendo games, but doesn't want to buy their console for whatever reason. Be it financial, "gimmicks" or just scared for their reputation or whatever...

I like having Nintendo games on one console. So I don't have to bother with things like:

"Play Mario Kart 9 on PS4 first"

"Play as Banjo in Mario Kart 9. Only on Xbox One"

"Pre-order Mario Kart 9 on PS4 and get exclusive content"

"Get 50% off Mario Kart 9 on Xbox One if you trade in a PS4 game"

"Buy Mario Kart 9 on Steam and play as your favorite character from Team Fortress 2"

Companies would just throw so much money at Nintendo it would be ridiculous. I want Nintendo to do well, but not at the expense of Nintendo fans.

I'm so glad Nintendo didn't take your advice in the gamecube years.

Yahh lets lay our hope in more fad driven sales, 1 out of 5 gens.  Awesome odds going into the nx.

I wonder what some of you prefer, ninty going bankrupt or going 3rd party.

Do you realize that Nintendo is making money even with Wii U and they earned more money than Sony in generation where PS2 sold 155 m and GC only 22m!?

Their games are awesome but their consoles (hardware & software platform) are not.

I don't think Nintendo should go third party, but I would like to see them be more competitive in the creation of their platforms and to be more aggressive in marketing them. It's frustrating to see them curled up in a little ball while they get ignored by the gaming public.

As someone majoring in embedded systems design. Nintendo hardware is pretty damn amazing. Especially the SNES and Gamecube. But the MIPS-based N64 is really interesting as well.

A bit off topic, but here's something I've always been wondering: was the difference between PS1 and N64 THAT big as some people say?

As for the OP, Nintendo has some games that a lot of people want. But not all of these people has a Nintendo system. So, they want Nintendo to go third party to gain access to their games. I can't blame them: Metroid, Zelda and a lot more are not something to joke about.

I think it's very important that Nintendo keep making consoles. They are always unique, with its bad and good things. But if we loose Nintendo systems, we'll only have two almost identical systems (funcition and software wise). And that's pretty bad.

Because most of their franchises are really well known but a lot of people won't buy a new console for 2 or 3 games they like. I don't think they are losing a lot of money now, but in my opinion they could sell a shit ton more on the ps4/pc, Some Nintendo fans are already there anyways

They are clearly failing as a console manufacturer, for me it's wasted potential. I think this is more about not having to pay royalties than anything else.

If they keep doing consoles I'm okay, I will buy them, but I would prefer their games on pc and playstation

Did Nintendo franchises popularity skyrocket on Wii? 3D Mario, 2D Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Kirby, Donkey Kong, Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, Paper Mario, Punch-Out, Excite, Sin & Punishment, Battalion Wars, Mario Sports, etc all had very modest boosts over NES/SNES/N64/GC sales despite having 40-80 million extra sales. The only title that saw truly massive growth over previous installments was Mario Kart.

Wii was a fad, its buyers werent gamers.

PS xbox byuers are.

Doesn't matter since it's never going to happen.

Their handlehld dropped severly to, and if nx is a hybrid of both and fails its ninty failing on all fronts.

Because Nintendo games are best on non-Nintendo systems.

Then why didn't Sony and MS abandon hardware and join Nintendo on Wii and DS?  Your logic dictates they should.

Because the Wii is a piece of junk. It is a gimmick that sold like hotcakes to casual gamers and non gamers. Real gamers bought PS3 and 360 and are still buying them today. Where's the Wii now? Name 1 good Wii game that wasn't made by Nintendo.

Muramasa the Demon Blade, Madworld, The Last Story, Pandora's Tower, Zack and Wiki, Red Steel 2, Boom Blox, No More Heroes (1 and 2), House of the Dead, The Conduit, Epic Mickey, Monster Hunter Tri, Sonic Colors, and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom are pretty darn good. Not to mention ports like Fatal Frame 2, Resident Evil 4, and Okami. Or the games that were developed outside of EAD and only published by Nintendo like Xenoblade Chronicles, Fatal Frame 4, and Sin and Punishment 2.

I wouldn't buy any of those games nor would I consider them "Quality". Yes that's my preference and it's subjective but could any of those games be considered a sales success? The ports were pathetic. No comparison to PS360. Most of the Wii games were complete TRASH. The Wii became a dumpster for any and all garbage because there was a potential audience of 100 million and many of them were looking for new games to play once the novelty of Wii Sports wore off.

The Wii was really never in the same league as their competition.  It was a new toy with a new gimmick and it sold like hotcakes. A low technology money grab. Hell, I have one sitting on the shelf right now but it hasen't been turned on in years.
