Forums - Gaming - Xbox One: Where Are The Cons?

I personally prefer the Xbox by far. So much so that my ps4 has barely been touched in recent months. But a thread like this is just an invitation for people to come shit on the console and many of them have never or would never even consider it a viable option in the first place.

The console is a fine console. It's reasonably powerful, reasonably priced, has a good controller, has backwards compatibility, plays multi-plat games competently, has a good operating system, and has a decent lineup of exclusive games.

It's main problem is that there is no excitement for the thing. It's honestly difficult to tell retroactively how well the 360 would have done if the PS3 wasn't moronic, but the simple problem is that the Xbox doesn't have the brand recognition that the PlayStation has. I think a lot of people just feel like PlayStation and Nintendo do their own things, and Xbox is just trying to be a second PlayStation.

Hardware is low end compared to a decent PC (i'm not even saying a good one, just a decent one xD), online subscription to play while on PC it's free, backwards compatibility is just with some games while on PC you have BC with every single game of it's catalogue... And so on.

PC > consoles.

The cons?

- Multiplats are weaker, run less stable fps, graphically weaker than PS4 often.
- More expensive online services.
- *Very weak lineup of japanese games, and rpgs (and in general all the PS4 exclusives).

*there are so many great games comeing to the PS4, in 2016.
Its a slaughter, and honestly games => why you want a console.

$10 isn't a huge difference games with gold has been a lot better then what has been on PS Plus recently.  Plus a gold membership offers better discounts and deals then a PS Plus membership does.

Ha... thats totally subjective... and wrong.

Neither PS+ nor GWG have been giving any good games for the current generation, andI still get 50% more games than you do (6vs4 per month).

The PS+ sales are actually pretty heavy and worthwhile. I have NO CLUE where you pulled that one out of...

The end of the year sale is better on the MS side plus there are weekly deals with a gold membership.

XB1 on its own doesn't have too many cons. It is reasonably priced and has a lot of high quality games. But it's kind of pointless to look at XB1 on its own since a lot of the system's current identity came from the huge backlash of what the system was at release, and what it has to compete with: the PS4.

The cons for XB1 right now are (and I say this as an XB1 and PS4 owner):
-Weaker graphics hardware than PS4: MS cut some corners on the GPU and RAM to lower the cost. Direct3D12 doesn't change the hardware.
-Overall less diverse games library than PS4: fewer indie and Japanese titles.
-Xbox Gold costs more than PS+: You can frequently find deals for much less than the regular cost, but the retail price of the service is more than PS+ and doesn't offer anything more. In fact the service used to offer much less and only added "free" games because PS+ was doing it. I would really like to see MS drop the gold requirement for online play, but that's a topic for another discussion.
-Controller requires AA batteries: This is annoying, especially considering PS3, PS4 and Wii U include rechargeables. This also represents an additional cost.
-No standard headset jack on controller: They've addressed this recently with a redesigned controller, but if you're stuck with an older controller you need to spend $20 to buy an adapter so you can plug in regular headphones. You don't need to do this on PS4 or Wii U.
-The system is huge: And yet the system still has an external power brick. I can fit PS4 into my backpack but not XB1.
-A substantially smaller overall user base: This makes the platform less attractive for developers and publishers.

Playstation has had a huge end of year sale as well, and seemed to have more titles and better discounts. It's kind of a weird thing to argue about anyway.

All praise Xbox One, our flawless lord and saviour. We are humbled, Microsoft. May you continue to bless us with your holy awesomness.

One of my "personal" cons is the lack of 3D platformers. There aren't many of them on any console, but both the Wii U and the PS4 at least have a few good 3D platformers, while to my knowledge, the XBO pretty much has zero.

PC > consoles.

If "PC > consoles" meant that much, the PS4 wouldn't be the dominant force that it is. So, with all due respect, I don't the see how that matters.

OT: Pros and cons are in the eyes of the beholder. I think every device has pros and cons, but the X1's cons, some of them, just happen to be strong enough to keep it from the mass appeal of PlayStation (which is okay, because everyone can't win) and this is why it seems like the ugly duckling in the room when, really, it's just the 2nd place unit.

Its pros keep it a viable option, however.

I would ignore a person who tries to derail this thread into a "hurr hurr my 1000€ pc is better than your 350€ console"

It lacks JRPGs and I'm not a fan of the controller

Lesser hardware to the PS4
Worse exclusives then both PS4 Wiiu
Worst cash grab controller ever, no headphone jack or rechargeable battery.
Cost more then the superior PS4.
Lack of diverse gaming, less gaming then main rivals.
Games run in inferior fashion then they do on PS4

It seems x1s greatest failure is the fact that PS4 exists.
