It sells like hotcakes as always, Mario usually means crack in video game form, though the Mario Party games leave something to be desired as it just didn't seem like a REAL effort after Mario Party 2 released 3 to 8 are all kinda blah.

Coincidently thats about the time that Mario Party games stopped being developed by Nintendo themselves and were handed over to Hudson for development.

Once Ninty stopped making them they started sucking, and pretty much have ever since.

If I remember correctly, all Mario Party games have been made by Hudson... Do you have any proof that Nintendo made the first two games? Because I agree that the quality has fallen a little after the second one.

Currently Playing: Skies of Arcadia Legends (GC), Dragon Quest IV (DS)

Last Game beaten: The Rub Rabbits(DS)

According to metacritic, the first one was developed by Hudson Soft.

Hmmmmm... nahhhh.. I won't post the German Mario picture... :)

Mario is by far one of the biggest characters and most recognizable to casuals and hardcore and even those who don't even play video games. Of course they'd be wise to take advantage of it. Mario was one of the first popular characters in video games that people knew the name of.

Get your Portable ID!

My pokemon brings all the nerds to the yard. And they're like, "You wanna trade cards?" Damn right, I wanna trade cards. I'll trade this, but not my charizard.

remember some study found that the name "mario" was more recognizable then mickey mouse himself?

Around the Network

Mario is by far most popular than Mickey Mouse and Ronald MacDonald, Only Santa Claus is more popular.

Another random fact I ran across:

http://vgchartz.com/japtotals.php?name=sonic&console=&maker=&disp=Japanese+Name&boxartz=1

The Mario and Sonic games are the 1st and 3rd best-selling Sonic games in Japan EVER, both ahead of all the Genesis games.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

"Since you can´t understand ... there is no point to taking you seriously."

Mario is probably one of the oldest surviving videogame franchises. What else is there still kicking around... pac-man? space invaders?
