Cameron better have an unbelievable script for Avatar 2 IMO. That 3D gimmick is not going to carry a second movie. |
Because 3D was the only reason why it grossed $2,8 billion. Come on man.

Well it would've had both lower ticket sales and lower ticket asp without 3D, so it sure as hell wouldn't have reached it without it...
Of course it's not the only reason though.

It was a huge factor; the 2D version of Fern Gully was nowhere near as successful.

I'm just saying the script better be much better the second time around .... if its the same thing as the first one, it's going to make no where close to that much bank IMO. That film has faded from the public conciousness very quickly.
UPDATED OP.
I noticed a tiny mistake.

How would you know? I believe that Avatar got hold of the casual market, therefore it, might seem like it, because the "casual" movie-goer doesn't sit on message boards.

I fail to see how people being on a gaming forum has anything to do with wether or not they are "casual" movie-goers. No really. I can see absolutely zero connections there. None.

Gaming forums, movies forums or any other forums, it doesn't really matter. What I was trying to say was, maybe, because you sit on a forum where 90% hates on Avatar, then you might get the wrong impression that the whole world doesn't care about Avatar, because they do.

That claim is even worse. No forum goers are your average "casual" movie goer? The fact that you visit *any* forum excludes you from being an average movie goer? I'd argue the majority of forum goers are your average moviegoers. Sheesh. It's not like because you are passionate about gaming you chamge your movie-watching habits. Either it must be that:
a) People who eventually sign up for *any* forum have never been the average movie goer, because of their generally high interest for gaming/politics/hunting/music/etc.
Or b) When you sign up for a forum, you automatically change your movie watching habits because god knows why.
Neither makes particularly much sense to me though.

I am not sure wheather you are intentionally are trying to misunderstand me, or if I am not explaining myself correctly...
When I talk about thé "casual" movie goer, I am talking about my mom, dad, grandmother, grandfather, people 50+, that has no particular interest in todays entertainment.
Neither of them watch that many movies, but occasionally when something big hits, or something is hyped in the media, then they go see it.
I don't cosinder myself an extreme movie goer, I watch between 20-30 movies every year in the cinema, while they might only watch 3-5, if that "many".
What i meant with the forum comment, was that if you are sitting on a forum with 50.000 members and 47.500 of them are saying they hate Avatar and don't care about Avatar, and you think that counts for everyone else, then you are mistaken.
Does it make any sense?
