yes it needs a break

I've only played a few of these games, but one of my friends who keeps up with them says they need to "calm the fuck down and spend more time on the next game."

What they need to do is go back to their roots. Ditch the Graces like combat, go back to the 2D style combat. All the big sellers in the series use that combat system. Also, just go back to world maps. Just like the one from Ni no kuni. These open boring fields are boring to traverse and the world feels smaller.

I really don't get developers sometimes when they start conventioning things that are good aren't good anymore. Be it survival horror, turn based, world maps, etc. Really, i wish they would stop it. To be sucessful every game doesnt need to be the same. We don't need every game to be a CoD clone and an open world.

Going on a rant here, but the series has lost itself and is stuck on mediocrity since Graces. Xillia gave it a breath of life due to the combat system going back to form on a new console... but ended up not beeing so great. Ever since the series has been stuck on average to mediocre.
They say that on Berseria de combat will be different. You map arts to the face buttons and have control over the camera. We shall see. I still think they should stick to what made the series sucessful.

Serously, what they need to do is look at Destiny, Symphonia, Abyss, Vesperia and even Xillia and find out what people loved on those games. I think they have been losing their way and the series is in decline. Also, the series isnt anual, We just got the entries a bit late making it look like it is (we have been playing catch up). Zestiria came out a year ago in Japan and Berseria will only come out late next year. Its a 2 year cycle more or less.

More importantly, i don't think its the development time as its bad development decisions. They just aren't going with the best direction for the series. They are trying to re-invent something that never stopped working and turning it into something worse. That is the problem.

Nah, I think it needs higher production qualities ...

Yes, yes it does. The characters and scenarios are too similar with every entry. RPGS like Tales of shouldn't be an annual franchise but it is :( I thought I was the only one who thought this.

I'm probably going to take a break after this one. Seriously the story, ffs, whoever first said they need better writers nailed it. It's the same thing, I swear for almost every game.

Yep have to agree with you on that lol

Storyline wise if you played one you'll know the plot for all the rest.

The only saving graces that the series has is the funny dialogue/characters, the music and the gameplay.

Exactly, but yeah the music is quite nice to listen too, and Zesteria is no exception to that. Maybe I'm just writing Zesteria off too soon, I've only played for like 4-5 hours, but it all seems the same. Plus this one, IMO, has a more convuluted crafting/equipment system, which I don't like :(
