Forums - Nintendo - 'Third-party releases for WiiU must use the gamepad or not release at all'

That would have been a decent strategy at launch but nobody cares about the Wii U right now third party wise. I bet Nintendo paid MS to get Minecraft on Wii U. The gamepad is a great idea, but it's heavily underutilized. And to be quite frank, there's little incentive besides a second screen that can act as additional information or a third party TV screen. Aonuma promised that Zelda U would use it to its full potential but so little of Zelda U has been seen...in 4 years.

The extra cost and effort is another reason why nobody develops games for Wii-U anymore. The only rule for me is: If there is no Pro controller support, I will not buy the game. I do not care about the gamepad, I actually hate it and refuse to use it.

It just shows how these game developers are not ready to utilise these unique hardware into their games. They just want to improve their games by its graphics and content.

I can only understand that mentality if you're getting a lesser game than the other consoles. A game that is on par should not receive serious complaints, especially when it's for a console that is well behind the leader in sales. No one is entitled to third-parties using each console's respective gimmick.

I especially hate the ignorant "lazy devs" rationalization. If programmers aren't working on one thing is almost certainly because management wants them to work on something they deem more important.

yes the wiiu version will be lesser extend and is very late

When it comes to Minecraft on Wii U, using the Wii U gamepad for inventory management seemed like a common sense idea, the developers even mentioned it was a good idea, so why isn't it there? So fans were right on calling them out for it. Ill just stick to it on PC .

"I think it will be the HDS"-Me in regards to Nintendo's next handheld.

Wii U is getting Minecraft a couple years late and at a $10.00 premium versus the other platforms. The developers should have at least offered Wii U owners some compelling reason to buy the Wii U version of the game. Gamepad integration for the menus would have been a huge selling point for a game like Minecraft on the Wii U.

Third parties release inferior versions of games on Wii U months or years after they were released elsewhere and then use it's poor sales to justify abandoning the Wii U (think Watchdogs and UbiSoft). Well, this is a self-fulfilling prophecy... If you make a crappy game then it is not going to sell regardless of the platform. ZombiU is a million-selling game on the Wii U because Ubisoft took the time and effort to make a decent game for the Wii U and I guarantee that it has made that company a profit in return. The same could be the case with Minecraft... the Wii U has a young audience that would eat this game up... I could easily have seen it selling > 2 million if it was released on Wii U a couple years earlier and properly utilized the system that it was released on.

I don't think games necessarily need GamePad integration. In the specific case of Minecraft, I'm just annoyed because the game is either an inferior version of the game (the X1/PS4 versions have 20x bigger worlds) that comes at a higher base price (yea it has texture packs, but if you don't want the texture packs, too bad), or an equal version of the game (360/PS3)... that comes at a higher base price, 2-3 years after the original release. I have the 360 version, and when I get an X1, I'll upgrade to that for $5, so I don't care all that much. I just would rather it have been $20 without the texture packs, or $30 with GamePad features.

Where did you get the info that the worlds are that much bigger on PS4/XB1?

MInecraft Wii U shares the same world size as the PS3/360. I've found several sources, here's one:

As much as I agree with a lot of that rethoric, ZombiU hasn't sold a million, and Ubi didn't profit from it.

That's the thing. We are getting a lesser game. The X1 and PS4's versions of the game are over 30x bigger. We're getting a lesser game and expected to pay more for it (yes, I know, texture packs, but if you don't want those texture packs, you shouldn't have to pay for them.)
