JRPG's are not traditional RPG's. Traditional RPG's are played by rules similar to D&D which makes Witcher and the Fallout closer to traditional RPG's in purpose and intent. The only thing JRPG's do like traditional RPG's is use a turn based system. True RPG's are ruled by a DM which challenges player choice in a world their decisions affect. They battle, level up and gain assets while making their mark on that world. JRPG's are generally linear stories, which give you no control over the world and even if they did its slight. |
Name me an RPG on NES that predates FF and DW. Because, I'm pretty sure those two games define tradional console RPGs.
