Forums - Microsoft - One of Microsoft's biggest product failures may not have been its fault

Ummm, Kinect is the only thing that kept 360 in the race. If anyone recalls, 360 sales were slipping pretty hard before kinect took off.
We all predicted that ps3 was going to outsell it shortly, and then kinect staved off the slip for another 3 years.

If you hold a gun and shoot someone, it doesn't make you less guilty just because you had committed yourself to listening to the advice of someone else on who to shoot beforehand, it doesn't work that way.

Does seem like Nintendo made a good choice tho if Rare went like this for Kinect they probably would have done the exact same thing jumping from the "core gamers" titles to Wii- Waggle ware which gamers would have been pissed off about too... I mean the gamers who get angry at such things, not those who would have bought and had fun doing it like the 20+million people who enjoyed Kinect Adventures on the X360

They still printed money

Not really, MS gets so much money because of investors and maybe with server hosting. Their stocks are probably in a bubble as well

No offense, but I think you have no idea what you're talking about right now.

I have more idea than you

It's their fault they shouldn't have made a version for Xbox one.
Didn't kinect sold well with Xbox 360

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

Sure thing bro. Microsoft's investor money is gonna run out any second now, and my Microsoft stocks are gonna be worthless

Ehh yes or they become stagnant. Havent you heard the news they are raising the US rates again

That article doesn't make any sense. And I don't mean just because they don't seem to know what "revels" means.

The quotes in question are about Rare focusing on Kinect software development. Kinect being bundled with Xbox One certainly would not be their decision. They were likely asked for their input but the final call is all on management, who would not have gone with that idea if they did not believe in it. That was clearly not a decision they would have left up to a group of software designers.

The author does not seem to know very much about the situation or they are trying to stir up some news with intentionally misrepresented information.

What was Vista and windows 8 then?

They still printed money

Bullshit. Microsoft sold over 300 million Vista licenses... how much do you think they needed to sell to break even?

"The internet-usage market share for Windows Vista after two years of availability, in January 2009, was 20.61%. This figure combined with World Internet Users and Population Stats yielded a user base of roughly 330 million, which exceeded Microsoft's two-year post launch expectations by 130 million.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Vista#Sales

Additionally, their work on Vista was not in vain, since it was the solid base for the Windows 7 adjustments. Windows 7 was mainly a service pack for Vista with a fancy name, since the "Vista" name was burned.

The same goes for Windows 8 and 8.1... most of the improvements are carried over to the next Windows versions. Under the surface (no pun intended) of the polarizing Windows8-GUI was a very fast and very reliable OS.

They spent over a billion advertising it.  it may have printed money but did it print profit?

If only they had a chance to say something against the words of the evil megacorporation Rare. But I guess they had no choice.
