Forums - Gaming - Gta 6 budget, Will take two exceed 265 million?

Of course they will. They'll make that back within a month of announcement alone through pre-orders and merchandise. We're talking about the sequel to the highest selling single game of all time here. Not to mention the fact that it's going to likely be natively 4K since we won't be getting a GTA VI until 2018 or later, and that all the additional work going into assets in the late 8th/early 9th gen is going to be even more expensive than it was with a 7/8 gen crossover game.

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

I want them to make something else first, not release a new GTA right away. If they decide to give us a new Red Dead I will scream like a little girl!

Almost half of those 265 million dollars were marketing. And since sales won't scale proportionately from budget, it would be stupid of Take Two do have a budget of half a billion.

GTAV development budget: 137 million
MY guess for GTAVI development budget: 190 million
Marketing budget should be up a bit from GTAV's 128 million, but not much. I guess maybe 140-145 million.

300 million sounds reasonable. But they'll make a billion dollars at launch day anyway, so 400 million or even 500 million aren't out of question either.

it will cost them as much as it needs for them to make the game they want. after all, GTA6 will make it back in its first week, or even its first day. thats not taking into account the money they get from GTA online.

i think the development and marketing cost will be up, but not by much. unless GTA6 simply trumps GTA5 in scale and content.

If rocks tar asks and makes a good argument for the need of a bigger double to the last game rake two will give them it, no doubt. You should read up on the relationship these guys have, if they said they need a decade to complete gta6 take two would be cool with it.

Yeah, of course, if Rockstar can make a good argument for it, but can they? In my estimate I already estimated the development budget to be up by 38%, which is more than enough to make up for the extra costs of developping for this gen, and having more money left to increase the scope versus GTAV.

Also, when you say a budget of 500 million, how much of that is for marketing? Do you mean that 500 million would be only for development costs? Which would be 3.6 times GTAV's budget?

GTA 5 and online has killed Rockstar Games

Just look at the game release history since GTA IV

2008
Midnight Club: Los Angeles
GTA IV

2010
Red Dead Redemption

2011
L.A. Noire

2012
Max Payne 3

2013
GTA V + Online

and then nothing but porting GTA V and Online

Red Dead Redemption 2 has been teased since 2012 but nothing official and the last teases are 9 months old.

In 9 months it will be 3 years since GTA V was released if a new game from Rockstar was coming in 2016 it would have been announced by now as GTA V was announced nearly 2 years before release.

400 million (500m for gta7) with marketing included but also included is the increase in scope, rockstar did not need to make a game as massive and polished as Gta5 which is a Huge jump from gta4 and sanandreas, it dwarfs prior titles. Rocks tar and take two have pretty much flat out said in the media lately that this is the business model they are going for, to take the time to exceed expectations and if they don't dwarf the game before it they may as annalise it which they have stated they will not. This is where the bigger budget comes it. Also It all depends on the release date which I'm sure they are smart enough to see that they will make the most profit releasing at the end of this gen and they will have the foresight this time to develop for 9th gen while porting down instead of up. It wouldn't make any sense for them to do otherwise considering the profit they made with Gta5 releasing 7th and 8th gen and I'm sure many people will be happy to double buy again for gta6. I for one paid 340 euro on three copies of that game and a shark card after an online profile mishap, I was only happy to spend the price of a console. No other game has that effect on people.

GTAV's budget was 37% higher than GTAIV's budget, yet you are still saying it was a huge jump from GTAIV. So why would they need a 100% jump in budget from GTAV to GTAVI to blow away GTAV

265m plus 135m is a 100% jump?

And how much of those extra 135 million would be for development?

Anywho, I was talking about half a billion (it's pretty clear in my first post: "it would be stupid of Take Two do have a budget of half a billion.") And when you replied you were also talking about half a billion:  "double to the last game take two will give them it", so not sure why you're going around trying to change the conversation to be about a 400 million budget.

I will assume that GTA6 will cost significantly less.
