Forums - Sony - Is The Last of Us a timeless classic?

Yeah, I would agree that if only one game of 7th gen became a classic, TLOU is deserving of it.

If GTA V and Bioshock didn't exist, sure.

GTA 5 sucked.

TLoU >> GTA 5

It sold over 10 Millions copies, one of the best selling PS3 games of all times as of now.

According to vgchartz, it has sold a little under six million on the ps3.

According to Google:

The Last of Us has 2 Billions and 210 Millions F*ckin results!

To put this in perspective, here is the entire Uncharted series: [39 Millions]

Or perhaps something else, like everything related to Resident Evil: [27.2 Millions]

The way you're searching up TLoU is flawed: it's not precise enough.

If we search up "The Last of Us" with double quotes as we should for greater precision, we get 30 million. Less than Uncharted and slightly more than RE.

idk but It's an amazing game, not a game changer but an amazing game.

the game changer that gen was CoD4. I don't think anyone here can deny that game's impact on the industry, it's still felt today.

No, actually The Last of Us sucks.

I pretty much agree with this guy. Same thing happened to me, I played TLOU for about 4-5 hours then I got bored it. I haven't felt compelled to finish it yet.

It depends on how intelligent you are.

Yes, I actually said that ...

The PS5 Exists.

Na, fella, you aint stupid. Explaining why TLOU is a classic and why it's the best game ever made is like trying to explain why The Hurt Locker deserved Oscars while First Blood didn't ... or like trying to explain why the acting in Atonement deserves an Oscar but the acting in Transformers doesn't. You just 'know' because of years and years of watching classic movies. The nuances of performance and presentation are SO subtle that only a well trained eye can see them, while those who can never and will never see those nuances will always stratch their heads and wonder what all the fuss is about. As pretentious as this sounds, it's simply the truth and, unless we want to beat about the bush and never get to the bottom of it, needs to be said. The onus isn't on those that understand to try and explain to those that don't, it's on those that don't understand to learn why themselves. When the burden of proof you are wrong is so great, to grow in any meaningful way requires you find out what you're missing or not understanding.

Ask again in 10 or 20 years, then we'll know.

I think it will be. MGS1 is still my top classic game to this day and its controls are pretty dated.

.....

So you're saying it's a timeless "game" because the voice acting and story are nuanced. Got it.

I played through it. Really, really enjoyed it and the world ND created but yeah, your post does sound pretty pretentious.  I'll have to give it a second play through one of these days to see if there impact is still there.  Quite a few games (and movies) manage to get an emotional reaction from me. Only a select few can get me lost in their world after further scrutiny.  I wouldn't pass my opinion of as fact or belittle anyone that felt differently from me, though.

Why not?

I don't it will age well gameplay-wise and I don't think a great story will be enough to be considered ageless as well.

I think it will. TLoU's gameplay is actually pretty fun and the story is one of the most engrossing ones out there not to mention visuals  have reached a point where I think they will looks pretty much the same years from now unless VR doesn't take over.
