Nintendo Not Planning a Booth at GDC 2016

It appears that Nintendo will not have a booth at next year’s Game Developers’ Conference. This is a surprise to anyone who has been following Nintendo lately, because the company is well known to be working on the NX console, and was expected to launch it next year.

According to an online version of the GDC floor plan, Nintendo only currently has a few small business rooms booked at GDC, which makes the public unveiling of something as huge as the NX very unlikely. This floor plan is current up to the date of December 11th, so there may be a future update to the plan later.

Stay tuned here for any more news about the launch of the Nintendo NX.

If they wanted to announce the NX, GDC might not be the better place, E3 would be the ideal choice. The last 3DS and WiiU games PLUS the new system PLUS its launch games.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Have they ever announced anything major at GDC before? lol

They have used it to announce games, but nothing on the level of hardware announcments.

A lot of information from Twilight Princess at GDC 2007 (reason of the delay, development problems, first person demo)

Spirit Tracks announcement at GDC 2009

Second trailer for Skyward Sword at GDC 2011

First screenshoots of Super Mario 3DLand at GDC 2011

They already said that they would show it in E3

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

No, they never said they were going to show at E3. The only confirmation from them is that they are going to talk about it in 2016. It could be January or December 2016. GDC, E3, ND or their own event. No event or specific date mentioned.

Oh well, 16 more days.

The earliest I would expect is Feb 2016.

Yeah I think Nintendo will have a NX conference in Feb/March so no need for a GDC booth.

They will wait until the fiscal year is just about over to minimize damage done to 3DS and Wii U sales for the fiscal year which are already in delicate shape.

Nintendo doesn't want the competition to take their ideas yet. Iwata was sure to mention that. NX will be revealed at E3 in some form and it will likely be an indicator that the platform will launch in the following months to a year of the expo.

Doesn't Nintendo usually announce their new hardware during E3? Then that would make sense

I've read elsewhere that they won't have a big floor space, but could still get a smaller spot if needed..
