Forums - Gaming - Steam's "New" Big Picture Mode Is now my fav "Console" UI

^ omg the blades, nostalgic as fuck! Why couldn't they have kept that, it was perfect.

Sadly while I thought it was amazing it didn't have a whole lot of room for adverts and other stuff around the screen, which isn't bad when you think of the system running in SD resolutions but when you go to 1080p along the past 10 years having a small compact UI quickly would show up the fact that there was a lot of empty space on the screen.

I personally thought the Twist UI was as good as it got, took a tiny bit of getting used to but was very functional. Again tho Zero advertising space to sell on it so that meant it had to die.

i loved the blades on 360 reminds me of last gen which was best gen ever for me.

steam big picture ui is pretty good, my previous complaint was all junk games etc that you hide away including addons would show up in big picture mode. this is no longer the case

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

While I enjoy the new Big Picture UI, I think it's still too limited customization-wise, it looks really blue, we should be able to at least change the main color or choose a background from our Steam profile.

Edit: Also, I think scrolling through the games horizontally rather than vertically looked cooler, I don't really know why, but it just felt right.

I can't argue with you on this one, my only gripe is that some games still require a separate setup app (less and less, but still, you need the keyboard around, especially the first time you run a UbiSoft game with Uplay...pure b.s... So I have not bought one in years but I reinstalled far cry 3 not so long ago)

anyway, their ui is what MS would have come up with if they were really great at software like some are saying, it's practical, it has all the features you may want on a console and it's snappy even on modest hardware... All the PS 4 does wrong is putting all the games and apps on one line, they could have something like the library screen but it would only show your installed games and put the mandatory apps as well as the store in a separate category... Everything else is mostly great, the ui is fast, it what it needs to do and the machine is the only console with some decent processing power (no other console is acceptable as a gaming device that you plug on the t.v.).

as for the xb1 os, the few times I was in a situation to use it it confused me, as a linux desktop and server admin I don't expect that from consoles.. So I will leave it at that as far as the xb1 is concerned...

I'm somewhat torn about it, on the one hand it's better to boot into than the old one. On the other hand I used to have all my categories listed when went into the games tab and now I need to go through games, go through a window, go to the right section and then select the category and I just preferred that one feature the way it was before, is a game breaker? No But I did prefer it as it was faster. I hope in a future update they let you show your custom categories under the games section on the left. Everything else I think is a massive upgrade, though as someone else said I'd like to scroll through them horizontally as an option again as I prefer that, but thats a tiny issue.

Mine is the ps2 ui

That was grand... as long as you didn't need to use the bathroom while picking a game, that sound of the water eb and flow was rather harsh on a full gamers bladder.

You know about the start up Easter egg of the PS2 UI? The Towers being related to how many files and hours spent on them on the memory card inserted.

Sorry if the audio of this video link is awful, I don't have my speakers set up so just seen that it displays what I mean, sorry if it's a squeaky kid doing the V/O for it or screaming in shock since it is on youtube.

Yeah after a while owning the PS2 I did notice the blocks increasing in size and the amount of them, but I never put it together in my Teen mind that it was linked to the number of save files on the Memory card... that and the fact that the ps2 cards were 8mb and there was some save files like Age of Empires which could take up 2-4mb of that in a single game lol.
