I agree. It wasn't a very good movie and I don't remember anything about it. Just boredom. 3 hours of boredom. So I'm very sure that Avatar 2 will make less money than the first one.

Avatar 2 will be lucky, very lucky to even make 1/3 of what the original made.

I like you can barely recall much from it.  Only watched it once and never felt compelled to watch it again.  It was beautiful, damn it was beautiful, but a sequel simply won't have that same wow factor.

Yeah, I think it was just Pocahontas with blue people lol. It was beautiful, and it was maybe the best 3D use I've seen with Gravity, but one time is enough. Well, on topic, I think that TFA probably will manage to get close to 2 billion.

So you're one of those epeople that think a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, that only white people should be involved in galactic war and politics?

No, I'm one of those people who think art should be dictated by the creators intentions and not the studios lust for demographic growth.

No, you're one of those people who don't see them in the first 6 movies, or the clone wars animated series, and who thinks when they show up they must be shoved in now (they were already in the star wars universe) when the people who created it could very well have wanted it.

Maybe he didn't know Lando Calrissian or Mace Windu were black.

Or that a princess and queen are women, or that Darth Vader and Jar Jar were voiced by black men.

There's no way in hell Star Wars is gonna get close to 3 billion and beat Avatar. Star Wars will make a lot of cash FAST but it won't have the legs that Avatar had. No movie had legs like Avatar and Titanic.

Sure, it has a chance to beat Titanic (unadjusted). But Titanic (adjusted) has over 1 billion domestically and freaking who knows how much internationally  adjusted (hint hint A SHIT TON!!!!) Titanic was triumphant and a true cinematic masterpiece that stunned the hearts of the world. Star Wars doesn't have that.

It should beat Jurassic World (which should have been better than it was.)

I just don't want Star Wars to beat my two fav box office champs, Titanic and Avatar which both held their records for YEARS. And well, isn't it a rule now that only Cameron can beat Cameron?

Avatar 2 will make the world explode.

If no movie had legs like Avatar and Titanic before it then what stipulation is there that no movie can legs like that after them?

Titanic's US adjusted for inflation figures are $1.13 billion but the original Star Wars US adjusted for inflation is $1.48 billion.

Avatar 2 will fail to match the money magic of the first film because it will not have the same new technology factor that drove sales of the first film.

Want it to beat your favorite films or not, it has a very real shot at it.

A third of the orignal Star Wars domestic  gross is from rereleases. Adjusted  and only counting original release Star Wars loses to a dozen films. and that is just domestic.  Imagine if we had adjusted worldwide.

Looking like 1.8 to 2.4 billion, at least, at this rate.

I'm also of the opinion Avatar 2 will (relatively) fail. The first move rode on the back of 3D novelty and had absolutely zero cultural impact on the long term.

Star wars has biggest domestic weekend ever with 238 million but has bigger drop offs than jw had on Sat sun. Opening front loaded on Friday with jw still owning biggest 2nd and 3rd days opening.jw also still owns biggest world wide openings also. Preorders help star wars get biggest 1st day and overall domestic weekend but data so far leaning towards Jurassic world. Can't wait to hear excuses of how this data doesn't matter!

They're actually saying that the world wide opening weekend isn't set in stone yet. Star Wars could still take it. Also, Star Wars hasn't opened in China and a handful of other smaller territories yet, which Jurassic World had on its opening weekend. So it will still easily pass all of JW's numbers. Jurassic World got $100m of its opening wekend from China, so really, it's not even close between the two.

And now Star Wars also has the biggest worldwide opening. No China needed.

That data didn't matter, it was preliminary. Jw still had Saturday but not Sunday anymore. Jw also no longer has the ww total. It still had the biggest opening for total outside of the US, though star wars had been seeing records all over the world.
