I think it's episodic more in the sense of a multi-part game like the .hack series (which I loved BTW) which others mentioned ...

Though I do wonder how much new content their going to put in the remake ...

As long as each part is like 50 hours long and being able to carry your save over for the next part, then it doesn't bother me. Besides, it stops you from being bored with it.

It wont be episodic, it will be multiple fully sized games. Think a movie or a book trilogy, its the same idea, the whole tale is composed of mulitple entrys, however each entry is its own thing.

I think Square dropped to ball on calling it "Episodic", because that cues the thought that the game will be released in short bursts.

Square never said the word "Episodic", they said it was gona be a "multi-part release", its everyone else who associated that with Telltales model.

If they make full sized games (like 50-60 hours each) I hope they don't plan on release more than three parts... Waiting would be too frustrating, especially for those who never played the original.

That's exactly what I've been saying, each part will be like a full game, so the break in play will not only give you time to play another game but keep you from getting slightly bored and keep you interested in FF7 and give you some to look forward to.

If Peter Jackson can turn the Hobbit book into a trilogy movie then Square is allow to make FF7 into a multi-game series.

I will assume it'll be a 3 part game like FFXIII, so each of FF7's original disc would be a game. Boy good thing Square didn't try this back then. Imagine if Square sold each FF7,8,9 disc as a separate full price game that would've sucked big time.

I'm not sure any of it works like that. The original pitch was for 2 films but the movie could have been 1 film due to the content of the book. Infact the first film in the Hobbit series was very lacking of content, somewhat slow paced. The original LOTR film series could have been 9 films based on that logic, 3 films per book. Each of the LOTR books were longer than The Hobbit, yet filled the same amount of films.

And was FF13 supposed to be a 3 part series when they announced it? To me it was just FF13, FF13-2 and LR were spin-offs and sequels like normal, it wasn't announced as a 3 part series.

The issue here is that we've had FF7 in one game before, adding content, splitting the complete story into even just 2 parts doesn't sit right with many. Where do they split it? By disc? That won't work as last disc on PS1 was just northern creator and 'extra' bosses basically, not something that can be split into an entire game really. Knowing there is more to come means each part will feel unfinished as we know there is more. What if someone can't afford all 3? What if someone buys #2 only, will the game start by asking if they picked up Titan Materia from the destroyed reactor or whatever? It's weird to think about.

Hmm, pie.

Yea I was just trying to make myself feel better about the situation xD

Personally I rather not have FF7R be episodic because it feels so incomplete, but I guess it's better than not having it at all.  Ultimately im sure there'll be the complete version of the game when all the episodes are done for those that don't want to pick up the game piece by piece.

That's the version I intend to buy... used of course in 2020. :P

2020? A bit optimistic are we? lol We'd be lucky if we get just the first episode by 2020 xD
