Forums - Gaming - What the hell is going on with the 8th gen?

You don't even know how it's going to turn out. I'm all for complaining about negative things in a certain generation of games but let's actually wait until we get more details to complain about that.

You are assuming the worst. Be patient young grasshopper.

I personally think that in the end, everybody is going to love the decision to split the game. everybody has been quick to judge it when there's been such minor details. Im not going to throw judgement until proper detailed info of what is going to happen and how it all works comes out, like the play length of each part, the pricing, the gaps between releases, will there be an all-in-one release after each part has released, is it all just following the main story of the ff7 we all know.

But I honestly think SE know what they're doing and it won't be all that bad as what people are ranting about.

Anyone my age or more should recognise that modern gaming is complete garbage relative to the 90's. The younger generation probably think DLC/Micro transactions are the norm and always have been.

In many ways, yes it is complete garbage compared to the old days.  But in many ways it isn't. If all you do is look at the surface of the mainstream gaming industry, then yeah, it does seem a little soul-less and money-grabbing compared to gaming back in the 80s/90s.  But if you dig into the indie market, you will find plenty of platformers, RPGs, point and click adventures, etc.  And that's where I spend most of my money these days.  I have a subscription to Indie Box as well.

If a game like Axiom Verge was released on the SNES or PSX, it would have been held in a similar regard to Super Metroid or Symphony of the Night.

To be fair, the publishers didn't have the same options they have today.  But I think that game pricing has become greatly skewed.   I mean, why not release a game like Destiny for $100 with everything?  If the value is there, people will pay... I mean, people are paying now so why the delays?

I dont see the problem, what do you all except? if people buy call of duty every year of course other publishers will copy this formular

I'm really scared of the acceptance of the public of multiplayer blocked by a fee in consoles. It seems a lot of people just asume that they will have to pay every week/month/year to access a content you already paid. If this becomes the norm, we will see fees in some PC servers, like Origin or even some Steam games. This is a game breaker for me, I don't buy any console that makes you pay to access a multiplayer you already paid when you bought the game.

So you wouldnt buy a Nintendo console if they would charge?

Don't even joke with that, please :(

That's the thing. The only real system seller that I have always had is Pokemon. I buy games that come to the platforms Pokemon is in. If Nintendo puts a fee on their online, I would be in a moral obligation of not supporting that console, or buying the thing and pirating every single game I'm interested in. Then again, I think that, if Nintendo does that, they'll go out of the hardware bussiness.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I'm all for episodic gaming.

Asking people 60 bucks a pop for a game is a lot for something they may or may not like. This is a barrier that prevents people from trying new things, and makes people less likely to get into gaming in general.

Letting people play part of the game for a small fee before deciding if they like it or not is a good idea. As long as each episode is given at a fair price and it makes sense for the genre. I would prefer though if the full version were made available as well.

I hate the fact that the gaming industry is becoming more and more like the movie industry...
