Forums - Sony - FF7 is turn-based, but without pauses in the action.

Momentum gauge like Kingdom Hearts imply action-based. The command prompt makes me think on a way faster FFXII to get that "Advent Children feel" SE has targeted for like six years now. Proportionaly, it's much like XIII stands compared to X, on Final Fantasies based on ATB systems. If that makes any sense...

You guys do know that FF7 never was turn based to begin with, right?

That said, let's just wait for more info. The game's at least two years away for crying out loud! I don't think ANYTHING is set in stone at this point and the game will look a whole lot of different than in the trailer in the end.

Turn based is a blanket term for games that offer no real control over your character, only issuing commands. Adding movement to a mix transforms it from turn based to a Tactics, which is just a subset of turn based. Adding in literal semantics like "it's actually menu-based with timers" only serves to confuse.

From the looks of the trailer, I thought it was kinda like FF15/Kingdom Hearts style. Either way, I'll need to play the original FF7, since the remake seems like it will be quite different gameplay wise.

Videos don't lie, and that combat is clearly action based. He can say one thing, but until they actually finish outlining what they want to do, we can't say for sure.

you're essentially correct, and those saying otherwise are just playing with semantics

a turn based game, RPG or otherwise, requires a literal pause for a player to make decisions. Games with real time action where you pick from hot key attacks or item options or whatever are obviously not turn based
